Why does everyone hate this?

I think if they did not base it upon the historical families some of the hate would disappear.

I haven't seen the original but I have to confess to really liking this.

IMO, the only reason anyone should remake a movie is to clear up the inaccuracies in the original. This one strays even farther from the truth! Rear Admiral Beardsley? He was only a CWO, a rank between enlisted and commissioned officer. The original got that right. There was also a strict no pets policy in the Beardsley family. The pig might as well have been flying!
