I really hate Kids and Presidents in Hollywood movies

The reason: 99% of the time you just know they are going to survive, especially its not based on a true story. No matter how much suspense they tried I never for one moment thought the President or the little girl would be killed, the closest they came was when I was wondering if Forrest's Character would die a hero pushing the girl out of harms way.

Remember Hollywood its just a movie after-all, you aren't really killing the kids and I would hope the audience is smart enough to know that too.

Wake up Mr. Freeman... wake up and smell the ashes

Yeah, you can be all pessimistic about things I guess.. I say it was a tearjerker and fabulous acting jobs across the board.

I remember in 'Schindler's List' the little girl in red was seen walking around, then two scenes later, the red coat was shown in amongst a lot of bodies, and the theatre audience all shifted in their seats: a movie actually showed the killing of a child! It made the story more immediate, more real, to everyone.
Very rare.

Tenser, said the Tensor.
Tension, apprehension, and dissension have begun.

That's what made Schindler's List so memorable, it wasn't afraid to be depressing. It had an uplifting ending, though still it showed things you don't expect in most Hollywood films.

Schindler's List was a comedy.

I remember a scene in "Die Hard 2", where it showed a plane of passengers, including a little girl holding a teddy bear. Terrorists blew up the plane, and when the wreckage was being checked through, they found a burnt up teddy bear (which hinted that the little girl died in the plane explosion).

@Tunaman09

You're so right, it's just too obvious in action films. You just don't need it, it's so cheesy. I wonder why they don't let children die in action films - would the American audience protest? I'm pretty sure that European audiences wouldn't mind too much about a little bit more realism.
As for presidents: I'm so glad to have the '24' series (especially after series 2) where we never know if a president is good or bad, will survive or be hurt/killed.

I just watched "In the Name of the King", which is a pretty much a Lord of the Rings-type swords and sorcery flick.

Jason Statham's kid gets offed pretty early in the film. Come to think of it, the King dies, too!

See Rambo (2008)
