This movie is pretty good. Why haven't more people seen it?

A solid cast of Hollywood A-listers, a neat story, and a Hitchcockian storytelling delivery make me wonder why I waited so long to see this movie. Why did I wait so long? I seem to recall that this did okay at the box office. Did people skip it on DVD because it hits too close to home for many viewers? Or did The Man put the kybosh on this movie because he was worried kooks might get ideas? Thoughts?

I liked it. Everything even seemed somewhat plausible, until they took the President back to the "castle". Come on, you receive enough of a threat to stop his appearance, then go back to the same hotel, where a lot of people know your staying at?

Of course, there has to be some suspension of disbelief.

It was entertaining, though.

Yeah.

Anoter thing that made me shout "idiots" at the TV aside from these gems:

The secret service would run checks on everthing from shoe size to grandmothers maiden names on every person working at that hotell, they would have no inside man in the lobby, let alone the secret service itself, it would be impossible to pull off.

And as if they'd only post one Secret Service agent with the real president? riiiight, they'd have the whole floor locked down at minimum, probably the one above and below it too.

As spanish i hate when they use mexicans people to represent spanish guys...
An made in mexico ,instead of spain...

Who are you referring to? The guy who played Enrique is Spanish, and they were also considering Javier Bardem for the part; the actress who played Veronica is Israeli; "Anna's mother" was Mexican, though. It was set to be filmed in Salamanca, but they wouldn't close down the Plaza Mayor so they could film there - see the Trivia section.

But I get your point. *I* hated that they referred to "the assassin" being shot when there had been no assassination!

Plenty of people have seen it, look at the number of votes. I do agree it's underrated though, 6.6 while junk like Guardians of the Galaxy gets 8.3!

I didn't like it, though it was a cool concept- it didn't make sense for me in the 2nd half.
Zoe's performance at the beginning was horrible, imho. Are you reading a child a bedtime story or are you a news reporter? I dunno the sing-songy soothing voice killed it for me. and could she be a more beautiful bomb victim? Let's put two drops of blood on her forehead. done. meanwhile the people around her are on fire. ok.
Aside from that part there were a lot of holes for me in the 2nd half I couldn't reconcile. why did they have that guys brother as a hostage/bargaining chip? who were the brothers to the moroccan terrorists? Also, what was Matthew Fox' story? I did watch this on AMC so maybe they cut those parts out....I hope so bc this made no sense to me.

"why did they have that guys brother as a hostage/bargaining chip?"

Erm... well, you just answered your own question - they had the guys brother to use as leverage, i.e. you use your special forces skills to kidnap the President or we kill your brother. I dunno, perhaps you are a single child or you hate your brother... but clearly that was a sufficient "bargaining chip".

"Who were the brothers to the Moroccan terrorists?"

Well, one was the person with the skills to do the job, and the other was the "bargaining chip" that was used to get him to do it.

But quite honestly, these things are not relevant - the movie is not about the terrorists or who they are or what their motives are; the President's attitude towards dealing with terrorism, and the pressures within his own office do indeed comprise part of the plot, but the film is essentially just about the events around the attack from different perspectives over the same time scale; we must glean what we can from these various viewpoints and extensive back-stories for all are neither necessary nor possible (due to time constraints). After all, we learned nothing about Anna and mama, did we?

I do agree that Zoe Whatshername was awful though.

123 000 people have rated it, I imagine they've all seen it... And that's JUST the people that have an IMDB account and bothered to rate it, you can probably multiplicate that number with 20... OR AT LEAST 10 to get a more accurate number of how many have seen it, which means that more than a million people have watched it... So, you were saying?
