Grendel's Mother..?

(besides the fact that I was jealous bc beowulf was getting it on with Angelina Jolie) I don't get the end when grendel's mom kissed beowulf wen he did..and why she had a staring contest at the end with that guy. I'm not good with names lol

Beowulf is Beowulf (no trouble remembering his name)
the previous King - Anthony Hopkins.

She was tempting Wyglaf. She kissed Beowulf as a former lover.

Whether or not Wyglaf went for it is anyones guess. I'd like to think that he resisted.

Good call.

I like to think that Grendel's mother actually loved Beowulf. Kinda weird way to show it though, you know... sending your son to go kill his father... but she gets some slack... she is a demon after all

We, of course, don't know the full story of the intervening 50 years when Beowulf is King of the Geats, but I'd be suggesting that he never went and saw Grendel's mother (or for that matter his son). I guess I'd be a bit miffed too if I was ignored for 50 years, especially considering I was responsible for him being the greatest king in Scandinavian history!

Imho it wasn't a kiss of love - she was collecting Beowulf's soul, the same as she did with Hrothgar by sweeping his body away after his leap of death into the sea. She was taking payment for the devil's bargain they'd each made with her: a moment of sin and a lifetime of power and glory, but in return she keeps their souls for eternity. Perhaps not the smoothest move, with the benefit of hindsight.

She doesn't waste any time either, going after Wiglaf without skipping a beat.

I tend to think that Wiglaf IS a better man and does resist.

Throughout the entire film, Wigflaf is the more rational, measured individual between the two...Beowulf is kind of boastful and immature...but Wiglaf always comes off as an all business no BS type of buy.

He isn't buying it. I believe in the novelised version of the film, he more or less tells her off.

I personally would have LOVED to see him wade into the water a bit more, greet her, possibly lean in for a kiss, and then run a blade through her...sort of officially sealing the deal and finishing off the story.

But each to his own.

I'm with you as far as Wiglaf's character being more level-headed and less impulse driven than Beowulf's, and he stood a chance at resisting her because of that. What was telling about that scene was how effortlessly and unfeelingly Grendel's mother moved on to her next conquest, which showed there was no love in what she was doing.

Wait, there's a novelized version of this? WOW!

I too like to think he resister her unlike his 2 predecessors.
