Will the 2006 Royal Rumble be as predictable as the last five?

Despite the fact that the Royal Rumble match is put over as this 'anything can happen' environment, it's actually been VERY predictable in the last few years. While it certainly doesn't make the match unwatchable (far from it), it does take away from the anticipation a little. Consider:

2001 - It was pretty well known that Rock vs. Steve Austin was to be the WM main event. The only question was who'd win the Rumble and who'd beat Kurt Angle at No Way Out for the WWF title.

2002 - If you didn't know Triple H was winning it, I feel sorry for you.

2003 - The only way you could have doubted Brock Lesnar winning it was because he wasn't even in the match until after the broadcast began.

2004 - Many expected Chris Benoit to be given the WM push, but a few people (myself included) had doubts that they'd go through with it.

2005 - Pretty clear that either Batista or John Cena would win it.

So will the 2006 Rumble be as predictable? The one good thing I can see is that at this point it is still wide open. Presumably after Survivor Series there will be a short list of potentials, though.

Now if John Cena loses the blt at New Years Revoltion then its a fact Cena will go on to Mania to get his belt back.

But if Cena keeps his belt it will be ether Triple H,Batista or Randy Orton.

OBVIOUSLY, John Cena will win the Elimination Chamber. My thoughts are that he will win and then @ the Royal Rumble, Triple H will probably win to set up a Triple H/Cena feud that will probably last up until the Draft Lottery. There one of them will go to Smackdown and Randy Orton will probably be put back on Raw to fight one of them for the belt.

It looks like the winner of the Rumble will be either Triple H or Randy Orton. A heel winning the rumble for the first time since Vince back in 1999.

I don't know... Mysterio is really popular but I just dont see him winning the 30man Rumble and winning the World Heavyweight TItle shot. Cena loses title at Rumble but winning it back at Wrestlemania after 3 months again... I dont think there would be much hype.. so Batista & Cena go out cuz they held the titles for about 8 months.. Edge already has a title shot.... that leaves us with one ORton & JERICHO if he returns( Bischoff isnt here anymore which seems like a good oppurtunity to come back) i cant thinkof other guys... undertaker doenst seem to be a main-eventer & kane big show these guys dont haf the spark in them.... THe way WWE is steering HHH wont win the Rumble but probably become champion agn. Kurt angle...naww .... he got too many title shots already Jericho & Orton seem the best choices..what do u say?

Probably not Kurt Angle either.

Yeah, it's gotta be either HHH or Orton winning then. I'd take orton over Trips, just so he'll have a rumble win to his credit.

I've been wishing since 2006 for an RVD victory in a rumble match and then seeing him winning the WWE championship at WM. He's a great wrestler, everybody loves him, makes good matches, great on the mike, sells a lot of WWE merchandise. This year could be his year! I'd love to see him in the main event level he deserves. But unfortunately, I think that the WWE will go for the easy road with Orton, the overrated-too-young-for-it-Triple H-sucker or the the sucker mentor himself: Triple H.

Too bad I'm a wrestling fan who loves surprises because the Royal Rumble could offer us the biggest surprises of the year, starting with the winner. It seems the WWE loves to advertise in advance the winner. I DON'T WANT TO WATCH TRIPLE H WINNING THE ROYAL RUMBLE AND EVEN LESS ORTON. By the time Orton is 26, he'll have done everything there is to do in the WWE, he'll be the youngest 13-time World Champion in history!

This is the only time of year when i start following wrestling again. When RVD came in back in 2001 I started watching each show just for his matches. I made quite a compilation copying all the broadcasts. Now I have over 50+ matches of his from 2002 until 2004.

If RVD won, then that would be a huge mark moment for me. But I kind of doubt they will push him.

When picking a winner, I always have to go with the champion who loses his belt at the previous pay per view. They drop the belt to the heel, then the face wins the rumble and goes to mania and gets it back.

Check out prowrestling.com they have the up to date of current stars. Only 25 now there are still 5 more to go. Probably some on smackdown this week then the rest will be surprise or alternates.

Looking at the list I would take Batista. But he isn't on the list yet. I just
don't see any of the current guys winning.

I would love to see Hogan make a surprise entrance. I don't really care if he won, just to see him in one last Rumble match. His last one was 92.
