Could make for an awesome action flick

I know I am not the first to say or think this, but this could make a really good action-war film. If the movie were to be played, I would put all three mercenary anti-heroes into the story. No reason why you can't re-write it so that trio of mercenaries are sent in except for just the one, and each basically go on three seperate mini-missions, then meet-up to handle a joint, climactic mission that basically culimnates in the end of the overall situation. I mean, the game is like grand theft auto meets the dirty dozen and rambo. Have someone like a Tony Scott or John McTiernan direct it, and you can have almost any action-oriented actor in the roles, as long as they have enough character charisma.

Ziyi Zhang as Jennifer Mui
Terrence Howard as Christopher Jacobs
Vincent Cassell as Matthias Niilson

I didn't say they couldn't screw it up, but they could get it right too, if they got the right people on it and really thought about it.

Resident Evil was actually a good example of how you can successfully adapt a movie from a video game. Doom was bad, Bloodrayne was putrid, and Super Mario Bros. was rather nauseating. Doom and Bloodrayne didn't have good acting, nor a good director, nor a good script, so they don't count as having the right people and a good story. I don't care how great an actor Ben Kingsley is, he was definately having an off-day when acting Bloodrayne. It happens to the best of actors. Don't have a Uwe Boll directing or writing this, have a Tony Scott or James Cameron or John McTiernan or a Walter Hill, who have all proven to be good action film directors. I'm not well-versed on good action screenwriters, but there's no doubt you can find them.

Look, whatever, Mercenaries would makes a good basis for a good action film, the facts remain, if you got a good director who is serious and thoughtful, and a like-minded crew and cast and screenplay, you can pull a good story from almost any kind of source. Resident Evil, whether it was true to game or not, had a good, thoughtful story, with equally geared acting and production. It may not have been a tour-de-force, but it was pretty entertaining and winning all the same, for many if not for all. Sometimes to make a good movie based on another source you have to betray to source to some extent, but not to the point that it makes no sense in the end result.
