Vincent D'Onofrio

I like the show but find this actor very irritating. Why did they choose this actor for the part he would have made a better physco in Silence of the Lambs. I dont think he is suited to playing a detective although he looks like he has eaten quite a few donuts in his time!

reply

Actually Vincent D'Onofrio plays the character of Robert Goran this way on purpose. "From the first season I've changed the way that I'm approaching it. . . Making him a little more on edge, but not in an overt way, in a more kind of simmering way, something beneath his controlled persona."

I was drawn to LOCI because of D'Onofrio ... his unpredictability as an actor.

That's also why I'm upset about Chris Noth joining LOCI. He won't bring much into the show. He's predictable as an actor and his character is the usual "cop with a bit of a temper".

reply

I completely agree with you. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Chris Noth, but I also understand why they brought him in, I just wish they had picked someone else for the part. I love the fact that Vincent's character is unpredictable, one moment he acts understanding towards the suspect and other times he acts as though he's about to come completely unhinged.

reply

[deleted]

Do we like it when Goran is unhinged because we all want to rescue and comfort him?

That is an excellent question. I think it's a yes/no question. For me it depends on the "case" there's some I've seen where it actually helps if Goran is a bit unhinged while there are other times when it seems almost completely unacceptable for the moment (but it fits).
I don't know if that makes sense, his character seems to have enough control of himself at the moment that he can put it to good use. Of course unlike the other L&O we don't know much about his personal life.
"Beauty......It's a beast."

reply

I miss Goren's "arias" at the end of each episode. Off hand, I recall the best ones are "Yesterday", "Mad Hops", "A Murderer Among Us", Context", "Sound Bodies". Just look at the final scenes of those episodes and you'll know what I mean.

Sadly, last Sunday's "Beast" didn't have an aria for Goren.

Also, D'Onofrio can't seem to get over his cold. His voice was so nasal like it was clogged, eyes watery... he's sick and still goes to work. I notice that he has a cold in almost every other episode in Season 4.

Mezzo Soprano

reply

That man is a work-a-holic, that's one of the reasons they brought in Noth, I don't know if you heard but he was actually hospitalized late last year for exhaustion, he just doesn't stop. I'm sure part of the reason he can't kick the cold is because he pushes himself way to hard, I read that he goes home every night and learns at least 8 pages of dialogue by heart for the next morning. But he's such a great actor that unless you've seen him act when he isn't ill you can't tell that he's probably feeling very miserable.

I did miss his aria this last Sunday, I love them.

"Beauty......It's a beast."

reply

Yes, I knew about those 2 visits to the hospital last November.

I know a lot of workoholics myself and we've seen a lot of actors manage lead parts for years and years ... I wonder.

reply

[deleted]

That was "Semi-Detached" and he looked beat in that episode.

He looked his best in "View From Up There". I don't know if it's the lighting or what but check out this episode again. He really looks good in it. And several more this Season: "Silver Lining", "Collective" and "Sex Club".

I got my Season 3 DVD thru amazon.com but I'm not sure if that's compatible with the DVD players in OZ. Maybe it will be quicker for you to order online instead of waiting for it's release in Australia. :) just a suggestion.

The reason i watch l& o ci is because of Goren and Eimes they are brilliant. Goren's quirkyness makes the show the way it is and Eimes keeps him from going mad i think. They're great together and it will be sad to see any of them go. I can understand that Goren annoys some people but to me he's great. Oh and I'm in Australia to so the L&O CI tapes are hard to come by, can anyone help?

reply

[deleted]

I got my Season 3 DVD for US$39 thru amazon.com. That was September last year. It sells for much less now. I spotted a slightly used one for $24 at amazon.com around 3 weeks ago.

I have most of D'Onofrio's films too. All except "Guy", "Homicide: The Subway" and "Naked Tango". Most of them are VHS. I have several on DVD and I'm building this collection. I want to have them all on DVD so I'll probably end up with 2 copies of each film :)

There's been several DVD copies of "Guy" being auctioned on ebay.com the past couple of weeks. The prices are outrageous. One bidder got it for nearly $300. I'm sure these were copied from VHS tapes because "Guy" has never been released on DVD.

Hay dudes

sorry to barge in on your Vincent D'Onofrio movie-on-dvd search but you guys seem to be more of a Vincent D'Onofrio or LOCI then me so I've gotta ask what is that epasode where Goren does that little dance around Eames and what season is it in? and Aussie where did you find season 1 of LOCI? i've looked everywhere and cant find it.

reply

[deleted]

that depends, where are you in australia?

reply

[deleted]

ough brilliant havent checked there. have you noticed that channel ten have skiped LOCI for 2 weeks? they always do this to the good shows!

reply

[deleted]

yeah, this week its "a person of intrest" and it involves that nichole wallace chic. did she retern in an epasode in series 4? i think its that one that you chose if she lived or died

reply

[deleted]

instead of having LOCI on sunday channel ten are showing double epasodes of NCIS and the worst thing about the tv1 epasode is that i might miss it because of grease. it sucks

reply

[deleted]

did nichole wallace go out with goren? he seems pritty upset about her in the preview of saturdays epasode and in the series 4 epasode.

You're a real fan having all those movies. I have only recently started collecting them. I Have 'Naked Tango' he looks great, but dodgy movie. Fires Within is a boring movie but you see some of his lovely bod. I have Men In Black (Good)he's so great in it! and 'Salt on our skin' and 'The Cell' I haven't watched yet. He's wonderful in Full Metal Jacket.

We've just come to the end of season 2 of Criminal Intent here in the UK. Boo Hoo! I just love his Nicole Wallace confrontations I think they have great on screen chemistry and I know he's done other movie work with her.

Can you recommend any good Vincent movies for me to get? I can't get alot as My DVD is not Region 1 compatable.

Anyhow, I'm a 32 year old female and if you'd like to chat about Vinnie just send me an e mail.

I think the episode she refered to was "Badge" from season 1 when that whole family were murdered by Terri Randolf. On the view show from March 2004 he said they were going into the 4th season, Vincent had just come from a divorce from Carin and may of been trying to come to terms with this.

reply

I heard from a source that another reason he left is because he was very upset about the whole Bush administration ordeal and when George Bush was re-elected it upset him and he had finally had too much what with the frustration from that and the exhaustion from work that he had to be hospitalized.

[deleted]

Personal opinions of donuts aside, I agree with the psycho apsect, how else would the character understand the intent?
I wonder which of the authors of these comments are cast members, just for kicks!!

reply

i havent got those time-shift channels and i was gunna stay home instead of going to grease but because im the only one cast in my role i had to go. thanx Aussie for tipping me off with LOCI being on at 1:00 am!

reply

[deleted]

really? yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy. I haven't seen it yet, what's the add about?

reply

[deleted]

Need to remined myself that so that my screechy sister wont watch one of her crapy chick flicks.

reply

you mean he's in australia or an interview by satelite

reply

[deleted]

all oversease celebraties want to go to Sydney so mayby he'll be hooked up

reply

[deleted]

of course it will start half-an-hour later because big brother always runs over-time but knowing channel ten it'll start just that bit earlier

reply

[deleted]

yeah but if Vincent is on a hook up from Sydney he would be the last on because the hook ups are always last but if its in the studio he'd probably be on after Adam Sandler and Hanson and all the other guests, or at least the second last!

reply

[deleted]

i don't know, but i know what i'm watching tonight!?! Hay Aussie, you seem to know when Vincent is on 24/7, what's your secret? is it that 'the reel Vincent D'onofrio' website or something?

reply

[deleted]

did you watch it last night? he's so cool, he's a legend and he's funny when he said to Rove "gay is the new black". but he seems like a nice guy to meet personaly!

reply

[deleted]

yeah that was gay! to-be-honest rove stole that bit from Conan O'Brian. ya know what? i would of thought Vincent would be on that "all that gliters" segment

reply

[deleted]

really? that sucks i woundered why they didn't show a pre-view of next weeks epasode.oh yeah and ha ha ha i get it "criminal". funny!

reply

[deleted]

is it comming up soon? hopefuly befor i go to Wyndome

reply

[deleted]

[deleted]

they'll probably play some movies while they're there, or a big brother spechial. still, there's allways TV1!

reply

[deleted]

This week on TV1 i think its "the gift" inwhich a national news cameraman is killed and i think it was his mum that Goren suspected was having an affair

reply

[deleted]

That was a prity good epasode but in favorite epasodes, nothing can beat 'Cherry Red'. I just love that part at the end where Goren gets into that guys car and starts reving it and seys "you don't know what your missing" and that guys just looking at him thinking "you basterd"

reply

[deleted]

the face on goren when she said that was priceless

Please!!! Your comments are so weak friend. Vincent D'Onofrio is a brillant actor who is perfct for the quirky Detective Goran. His character is so thorough and full of excentricities that he is able to get into the minds of the perpetrators of many well planned and thought out crimes. Not only does he seem to solve them but he seems to understand and de-mystify their oddities. Vincent D'Onofrio is around 6'4 or 6'5. I am sure he can be an imposing man but the few donuts thing is uncalled for. He is not heavy, though I am quite sure is is not a stick like Tim Robbins(no disrespect to Tim robbins, anopther incredible actor) who is of comparable height. I don't even know how you can tell his girth since he is often wearing a coat. Try and use your head next time and stay away from needless comments. Dig??

reply

[deleted]

I'm with you, naadabee. I *love* Vincent - he's a brilliant actor and he doesn't need to be beefed up to be great at what he does. :)

I'm disappointed that they are bringing Chris Noth into CI. I'll always see him as Mr. Big from SATC. He's got nothing on Vincent.

Vincent D'Onofrio is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I find him very sexy, and the way he plays Bobby Goren is incredible. They had a weekend marathon of Criminal Intent here in N.Y. I watched every episode, I cannot turn the tv off when he is on!!!!!!!!!!

reply

[deleted]

[deleted]

If it's the actor's quirks and mannerisms you find irritating, maybe you should look again; D'Onofrio uses all of them to flesh out a very interesting, well-written character. I'm just now catching onto "Criminal Intent" but now I surf the on-screen menu for it --- and am in a mini-heaven when USA runs three episodes back to back.

Can someone tell me what season the episode "Subway" was in? I happened to see some still photos from that episode on a fan site and it looked very interesting.

HEY ALL! Did you all see the preview for this Sunday episode ? It is 2 hours and it has Vincent and Chris Noth and their partners in it. I am so psyched to watch it. Also I watched yesterday the episode where the man collects classic cars based on model that he built when he was a boy, so so so good Goren is amazing in that episode, I just love Vicent more and more each day!!!

reply

VINCENT!!!!!!!!!! I have tickets to see ODD COUPLE on broadway with nathan lane and matthew broderick, i went on line to see who else is in it , OH MY GOD nichole wallace ----olivia dabo plays a pidgeon sister i cant believe it so so funny.

reply

Here's a question that no one has answered. Is he coming back to CI? I like Chris Noth in SATC and in the regular Law and Order but I think that CI belongs to Vincent. Please let me know if anyone out there knows if he's coming back. Thanks.

reply

HI! Vincent is still on Criminal Intent, he and Chris are both on Criminal Intent .
