Very Underrated Game.........

I am about 8 hours into this game and it's really an awsome gaming experience. If you like GTA type games and are a fan of the Godfather movies or even someone who appreciates a well balanced, beautifully designed game I highly recommend it. It really immerses you in 1940's gangland New York and the driving portion of the game just never gets old (smashing into things and running people over) Voice acting in this is second to none and I can't see how it did not win awards for this. One negative is that Microsoft has not yet made the original XBox version of this game backward compatible with Xbox 360. Kind of forces you to buy it for that platform but the enhancments in that version are arguably worth it. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

The last gen series version is good, but the 360 version is weak compared to it's counterparts.

i assume the OP's never played the FAR SUPERIOR game called 'Mafia' (on PC)?

cause The Godfather game cant hold a candle to that game... i lost interest in The Godfather video game real fast... the movies are great though but the game pretty much sucked.

The Godfather (game) is mediocre compared to Mafia and best of all Mafia 2 is due out late this year (Fall 2009 to be exact)

Mafia is one of my all time favorite single player games that i still like to this day and it's been over 6-7years since it came out and there aint many games that are still 'worth playing' that are that old but Mafia (on PC) is ;) ... only thing the game is a little flawed on compared to today's game is it's graphics as there getting a little dated but considering it was made in 2002 the graphics are still respectable.

but basically out of all these types of GTA type games... Mafia is the masterpiece of them all without question.

basically the way Mafia plays out is like a quality mob film and you get a nice feeling at the end of the game where as you dont get that from pretty much all the other games like GTA series or The Godfather etc etc.

The Godfatehr is a very good game. Mafia also is a very good game. But they're two different things; In The Godfather, you can really extort businesses and all, I think that's great. You can also take over rival families etc. => awesome.

Mafia is a great game, mainly because of the storyline and the missions. And for me, that's all what a good game should have. Screw graphics and sound etc., for me, there's gotta be a good storyline and various missions.

That's why I think Mafia and the Godfather are almost perfect, but in a different league.

I think it's a lot more fun than GTA, and I used to be one of those people who only thought of non-GTA sandbox games as ripoffs. But you don't know until you try. And with all the annoying GTA side missions taking away from the enjoyment of the game, I love playing Godfather 1 and 2. Saints Row 2 was also more fun than GTA and my choice out of all three.
