Americans...

you just don't get it....yet again

I'm American, and I like the show. What do you mean we don't "get it?"

Meatwad: Oh, hi Carl!
Carl: Is that all you came to say? We, uh, we done here?

reply

we get it, in fact i think i get it more that the people who made the show

reply

Yeah, OK. Because we all know the British sense of entertainemnt is SO much more well refirned.

Benny Hill? You want to forget about that, don't you?

reply

I'm American, and I think the show is amazing, I watch it as much as I can.

reply

these are the kinda british people i like, not stuck up, and loose/ happy go lucky

Mr. troll seems to have thrown his rock and ran. Never to be seen again. I'm american too and like the previous posters, I love this show.

reply

I'm Australian, and 99 out of 100 times I like British stuff better than American stuff, but this show really does suck. Especially when compared to Mythbusters. Even when not compared it sucks.

What?! I caught this show on G4 a few weeks ago and I have been hooked! I literally stop everything I am doing to watch it, and normally they have 4 shows on back to back. I think it's a brillant show, and it mimics what we did have in the states when I was a kid: Beekman, Bill Nye (the science guy), and Mr. Science. Those of us who loved those crazy shows that provided us geeky science facts love Brainiac.

You can't say that all Americans don't get it. Especially when this American grew up watching British humor like "Are you being Served?," "The Young Ones," and "AbFab".

reply

to you guys that do like it....i salute you. Its a brilliant show, that I felt, alot of people on this forum (americans particularly) were reviewing as an in-depth science show, nit-picking on their scientific mistakes and errors...I felt 'they' didn't get it.

Sorry, I guess I did leap in two footed and tar you all with the same brush :P

reply

Out of interest, anyone know if the Mythbusters stuff was done before or after Brainiac?

reply

I'm not sure. I caught a few minutes of Mythbusters the other week, and to be honest they were pretty much the same, except Brainiac's more colourful and fun. And it has Richard Hammond.

Obviously after, Americans couldn't think of an original idea if it slapped them in the face.

Uh, Mythbusters (January 23, 2003) premiered almost a year before Brainiac: Science Abuse (November 13, 2003), so he was copying whom?

I´m swedish,I usually love british stuff, british TV-series are usually the best ones.Brainiac is fun at a giggling level at best, but often too sexist for its own good.In short,a disappointment. My 7 and 6 year old boys like Brainiac, but I don´t fancy the fixation on breasts and...yes,you know.I´m not a prude, but it has nothing to do with science to show womens legs and breasts every five minutes, followed by crude remarks.(it´s the remarks that bother me really).
I have chosen to laugh at it,but it also makes me feel uncomfortable to let my daughters watch it,since women seem to be some kind of prop in the show, and are not taken seriously.
Mythbusters is much better, there women are treated as equals to the men.
