Obnoxious editing
I guess they were going for gothic with the hollow echoes and the strange jumpcuts with the whipping sounds, but it was cheesy and melodramatic. Anyone else feel that it cheapened the story?

Yes, I also find it highly annoying though hardly surprised. Just as with split screens in the late 60s or electronic music in the 80s there has been an epidemic of jumpcut style of editing. Very unfortunate for otherwise it would've been an excellent adaptation.
