hollywood remake?

I loved the original movie and just can't see why hollywood even bothers to remake this piece of art into cheap crap with sex-scenes. and please jennifer gardner? uhmm if you are going to make a remake of a film isn't it a common sense to cast the main character with similar characteristics from the original?
