what's the story about?

Without giving too much away, the main character is starting college, and the first person he meets is a quirky girl who looks and acts younger than her age. They both enjoy photography and make a habit out of taking and developing pictures together. However, he also meets what's supposed to be the perfect girl - smart, beautiful, feminine, and kind. He falls for her, but over time, finds himself more and more drawn to the first girl.

There's a lot more to it, but I'm hesitant to go much further in depth. If you haven't seen the trailer, I'd recommend not watching it, at least until after the movie. It has a few shots that, not having seen, had me even more on the edge of my seat near the end of the film.

I thought it was awesome, and though I haven't seen Ima Ai ni Yukimasu, I've heard it's even better! I can't wait! =)

I actually finished it last night. I couldn't sleep and looked to here for movies to watch and I liked it a lot. Pretty much at around the same level as Be With You, except in a different way. However, I did find myself very moved towards the ending much like in Be With You.

I plan on buying it as soon as I can get out of this financial slump so I can watch it on my TV. If you have any further recommendations, please share!

the road home-also not much dialogue, but moving

Yes, this is a wonderful movie, The Road Home (1999) aka Wo de fu qin mu qin. If you don't search it with the date IMDB doesn't even locate this movie in its search engine. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235060/

In fact all the suggestions on this topic aren't much use without the year listed also.

some Japanese movies:

Crying Out Love in the Center of the World--- pretty similar to this one, but more emotional (in my opinion).

Su-ki-da--- some sort of love story, but it's not so much ups and downs. More like mediums and downs.

About Love, Laundry, Love Letter--- maybe you should check them out.

Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl---love story/action/comedy, but one of my favorite movies.

I wasn't such a big fan of Love Letter, or About Love, or even Be With You (but I liked the other ones). It just happens that I just watched Be With You, so I came to the message board to see what's happening. I thought that the main actress was way too affected, but I can't say whether that's bad acting or just acting too Japanese. However, I REALLY liked the main male character. He was so real, I thought. Just an average, or even a kinda weird guy. Such a large portion of Japanese male protagonists are these womanly things which piss me off (for example, the boy who receives the cake). And Japanese women are like the woman in this: extremely phony.

Sorry I went into a rant, but it has been therapeutic. It's like I went to a psychologist for a few minutes. *Sigh*

Be With You is great but
if you say My Sassy Girl is a garbage and not complex, you dont know anything.

I bet you dont know about the "hidded ufo" in my sassy girl.
and some other easter eggs.

they are both good movies, in their own genre.

Two good weepies I really liked, Summer Snow (with Tsuyoshi Domoto) and Yuuki/Courage (with Kazuya Kamenashi).

I know it's almost 10 years from the original post but if anyone is still looking for similar stuff, I strongly recommand Clannad After Story (don't watch it without watching Clannad first). Before you say it, I know it's not a movie but an anime but God, the "feels" are the same. If Clannad AS script writers drew inspiration from somewhere, it's from this movie.
