Not anywhere as close as being as good as Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time is a timeless game. Perfect in all facets. It has a special touch and it's called the Miyamoto touch. The reason why this game doesn't have the same magic because Miyamoto wasn't heavily involved in creating this game.

Anyways, it would be nice if Miyamoto created a new Zelda game or at least some kind of game for the hardcore crowd.. He's a brilliant designer.

In my opinion, this game is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than OOT. I still like OOT sort of though. But, this game was MUCH more addictive though. Plus, at least there wasn't a Water Temple to get me lost and confused.

You still like Ocarina of Time sort of though? Jesus... Kids these days...

I liked Twilight Princess alot. I have few major complaints though, which is a few more than I had about OoT. First, theres surprisingly little to do outside of progressing the linear storyline. I wasn't expecting side quests on par with Majora's Mask here, but at least Hyrule should have seemed as alive as it did in OoT, since this entire game was practically a homage to that game. However, once completed, there isn't a whole lot to do in this game. You can collect rupees to help Malo. YAY! Hunting down all the golden bugs might have been fun, if collecting large amounts of arbitrary crap was EVER fun in a game. There are some nice little mini-dungeoun-like caves to explore which seem to have nothing in them but rupees. Maybe some have heart pieces... whoopty-freaking-doo. The only optional item I can remember getting was the 'magic' armor, which sucks up all your rupees and, consequently, all the fun you could possibly have had while wearing it. Not that you needed uprgraded armor, which brings me to my second point:

This game was way to easy. The puzzles for the most part were pretty simple and sometimes even tedious excercizes. The gameplay's tuned to perfection, but the enemy's are all so easy that you don't need to do anything but wave the wiimote around most of the time. I understand that Nintendo wants to make games that everyone can play, but could we at least get a hard mode for those of us who actually do know how to play video games?

One last complaint; I hated the wolf sections. Hated them. The combat was even more mindlessly repetitive, and so easy that it just became more of a chore than anything. And those goofy parts where you just keep hitting 'A' to jump from branch to branch through an entire forest? What the hell??? Those jumps at least could have been timed. Springing from tree to tree and climbing icy cliffs should be anything but monotonous.

Miyamoto has said that this will absolutely be the last Zelda game in the current form. Thank God... TP is far from a bad game, hell, it's a great game, but it lacks the innovation and imagination that have made some of the other entries in the series classics.

What? Am I not suppose to have an opinion about a game and what I like about it or don't like about it...?

Looks like someone here didn't even bother to play OOT...

reply

What is that suppose to mean!? I DID play it! Just because I like TP more than OOT doesn't I didn't play it...

reply

Please tell me why you like TP oh so much more than OOT. No one shouldlike TP more than OOT. OOT is the best game ever.

reply

LOL! Yeah sure, OOT, best game ever. Look, it's MY opinion that I don't like OOT anymore though, but I don't hate it. It's MY opinion that I like TP more than OOT. It's MY opinion that I don't think OOT is the best game ever.

reply

It's been a proven fact that OOT IS better than almost every other game in the world. It's not MY fault you can't appreciate pure masterpieces such as OOT. You're just one of those people who think sequels are better than Originals.

reply

As if you couldn't gotten more rediculous! No, OOT is NOT the best game in the world to me. It's called an opinion. If you think my opinion sucks, then please, go troll somewhere else.

reply

Um, you're the one who thought TP was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY better than OOt at first. So, you started this, not me. And how dare you say OOT isn't the best game in the world!? It's already been a proven fact that it is, so...there's no reason why you think TP is better than OOT.

starrodproductions, of course you have the right to your own opinion. That doesn't mean we don't have the right to ridicule you for it.

What troubles me most is that you say you used to like OoT, as though the quality of the game spontaneously dropped. The gameplay in Twilight Princess is almost identical to that in Oot; the only area in which TP is obviously superior is graphics.

For someone so excited about standing up for their own opinion, you don't seem to care much about explaining or defending that opinion. You know how I feel Twilight Princess... What exactly did you think that game achieved that OoT failed to achieve?

reply

OOT is the best game of its time. Its not the best game ever.

reply

Just out of curiosity, what games have come out since that you would rank higher?

reply

To me:
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
- Bioshock

Majora's Mask equalled OoT in quality, but none of the Zelda games since have been quite as good.

Not dissing OoT, just stating my opinion. I'd still rank OoT in the top 10 games of all time, but just a little lower than the #1/#2 spot it and Final Fantasy VII trade between them.

My personal top 15 [for context]:

15 - Street Calibur 4
14 - Rock Band 2
13 - Super Metroid
12 - 007: GoldenEye
11 - Super Mario Bros.
10 - An Untitled Story
09 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
08 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
07 - Super Mario Bros. 3
06 - Tetris
05 - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
04 - Final Fantasy VII
03 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
02 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
02 - Bioshock
01 - Shadow of the Colossus

I rarely give up on a game out of boredom and with this one I did. Not sure why. Just didn't find it at ALL exciting nor did I ever feel like "omg I have to play it" it got to the point where I was just going through the motions so I could beat it and put it away forever. lol. Never even got that far. This game STINKS!

As a defense I'm neutered and spayed

Ocarina of Time still lives on as an absolute classic as it was a huge step forward in the the world of 3d. TP was a great revision of OOT formula, but Ocarina of Time was innovative and hugely influential.
Its also probably one of the most finely structured games I've ever played.

It gets my vote for the best game ever. I played it again recently and it STILL is a joy to play.

OoT is out of TP's league. :)

LOL! I hated TP, i dont even consider it a zelda game. I dont get why critics say TP is the best zelda game ever, what are those people smoking! Saying its better than Oot and Majoras mask,, WTF!!!

I think OoT is a great game and was a masterpiece ... for the Nintendo 64. TP is very linear, but so was OoT if you want to be honest. (For instance, I attempted to finish the Desert Colussus before the Shadow Temple and the game froze up. Hence, it is also linear, even if you can get small items out of order.)
TP was the first of its kind in the Zelda series as it was more interactive with the swordplay instead of just repeatedly pressing A over and over. I'm still having fun with TP, as I didn't get a Wii when they first came out and it is still fresh to me. I believe TP to be on the same level as Oot in their respects of game systems and what they offered for their consoles at their times.
TP is not a rip-off of Oot. MM was, even down to the same characters. I hated MM and got bored with it rather quickly. (I never even bothered to play WW. It looked childish and lame to me.)
The top four Zelda games in the series, in my opinion are:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Your opinion sucks Confounderboy! I dont care if you hated MM, thats your opinion, but it was way better than Tp. Whats that, you didnt even bother to play WW?!! Because it looked childish and lame? You dont have a realistic opinion on zelda games unless youre a real zelda fan.

reply

Your opinion sucks too. Right back at you. BTW, I didn't know you held the knowledge on who is a true Zelda fan or not. Thanks for infoming me and the rest of the world. Come on man (or woman). You are acting a little delusional. I hope you are not.
And I would agree MM "was way way better" IF, and only IF:
The end boss had not been such a lame joke. (I expect the level bosses to be easy as everyone knows the actual test is the level itself in Zelda games.)
The world layout had been more extensive. Too small, even by OoT standards. Compared to TP, it isn't even a worthy comparison.
I will admit that it was cool to become a Goron and a Zora. But a Deku? Lame. That could have been left out entirely.
As for WW, I may eventually get around to playing it. But sometimes having kids and a job get in the way of playing everything I want to play. Not all of us are teenagers on here with nothing to do. (I'm not saying you are teen without kids and a job as I have no idea who you are.) The more I read people's comments on WW I find myself more intrigued than I was when it first came out. But TP was something I anticipated for a long time and it blew all my expectations away. If it didn't do the same for you, fine. But don't belittle others opinions just because they are different than your own. Even if you are not one, it makes you look like an a**hole. And I'll admit I acted like a bit of an a**hole myself on here, so...
Truce?

There is no way that TP is better thsn OOT. Just no....no. I have played a lot of games and I think I have a clue to what the greatest games out there is. I believe that the very best game series out there is Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Mario (because it is a lot of fun and have touched everyone) and Zelda. Now within these we find the greatest games. I have thought and evaluated for a looong time, going over them all (I am a hobby critic) and in the seek for the very greatest game of them all I landed on OOT. This is why. Beautiful music, fun action and adventure, a great mix of different emotions, sadness, joy, funny, even scary, but most of all touching. The thing that stands out in this game is how magical it is, the best word to describe this game, don't get me wrong the Final Fantasy games are also magical (I should know) but not like this. And it is all mixed together in a perfect way where unlike this game it is all in a proper manner. TP had akward moments and some unfitting parts, the skytemple and the futuristic look of the portals and stuff, a lot that didn't mix well, where OOT managed to go from lake to snow to volcanoes to the dessert in a way that you really bought it and imagined a gigantic, fantastic, beautiful and magical world. I will give credit to Wind Waker as well as it is my next favorite because it to was magical and had a very good adventurous feel. (Pardon my spelling, english is my second language and I'm a tad out of shape).

Ocarina is a great game but my opinion goes:

Majora's Mask (game is in its own league)>Twilight Princess>Ocarina of Time

Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum-If You Want Peace, Prepare For War

reply

TP was the first of its kind in the Zelda series as it was more interactive with the swordplay instead of just repeatedly pressing A over and over.

I'd be remiss if I didn't correct you here. The credit for the more intuitive and interactive swordplay in the Zelda series (post-Majora's Mask) actually goes to the one game you eschewed, the Wind Waker. In fact, some of the swordplay mechanics you see in TP were carried right over from WW.

WW utilized a Parry system, in which an on-screen indicator tells you when to press the 'A' button to counter an enemy attack. Pressing it at the correct time sends Link into an evasive attack maneuver, in which he either rolls behind the enemy to perform a back slice or jumps over them, striking their heads and whittling down their armor. Both of these techniques crossed over to TP, the only difference being that in TP you actually unlock these attacks as a normal part of your moveset, thus you have more control in combat since you can pull them off at any given time once you learn them. The combat system of Twilight Princess was more or less a tweaked version of Wind Waker's (I won't say "upgraded" or "downgraded", that seems to be a relative matter among fans and a highly contentious one at that). Personally, I prefer TP's combat.

I am sorry, though, that you can't see fit to even TRY WW solely because of its graphics because I think you'd truly enjoy it if you gave it a chance. But to each his own. ;)

I disagree. 'Twilight Princess' definitely had its problems but people put 'Ocarina of Time' on a pedestal it doesn't deserve. Is it one of the best video games ever? Definitely. Is it the best video game ever made? Not in my opinion.

People criticize 'Twilight Princess' for being linear (which it is) but forget that 'Ocarina of Time' could be linear at times. Hell, Zelda in general always had some linearity. For example, in 'Link to the Past' you have to defeat the first dungeon to save Zelda and you have to defeat the first Temple to obtain the running shoes or there's no way you'll advance to the next part of the game. Same with 'Ocarina of Time'. You have to defeat the "Great Deku Tree" level or you can't leave the forest and later have to defeat enter the Dodongo's Cavern or you can't obtain the bomb bag and make your way through Zora's River. Same goes for entering the "Shadow Temple". You have to defeat the first three Temples or you can't go.

Honestly, the only installments in the series void of linearity are probably the first and second. You can quite literally skip the first dungeon in the first game and move on to the third. That's pretty amazing. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the later ones.

Also, people who complain about side quests in 'Twilight Princess' need to accept that 'Ocarina of Time' doesn't have the best side quests. In my personal opinion, 'Majora's Mask' does but mostly because that game is nothing but side quests (still one of my favorites). I mean, who honestly can't tell me that once you collect all 100 Gold Skullutas that they weren't disappointed with the prize?! 200 RUPEES?! THAT'S IT?!?! What a gip! The giant's wallet only holds 500! Maybe in 'Link to the Past' (999), 'Wind Waker' (1,000), or 'Twilight Princess' (1,000 which comes in very handy) would help but not here! I was expecting something incredible for my hard work!!

So, to end my rant, I think people need to stop comparing every old or new Zelda game to 'Ocarina of Time'. It's becoming the 'Final Fantasy VII' of the series: a somewhat overrated game that developed an enormous cult following! Again, with that said, is 'Ocarina of Time' very influential? Hell yes! Probably one of THE most influential action-adventure games out there. Is it a bad game? Hell no! Probably one of THE best games out there! My personal favorite? Nope. 'Link to the Past' forever holds that spot.

"People tell me that my personality is divided. I don't think so, but maybe it is."

reply

I don't think TP is as good as OoT either, but it's still pretty damn awesome.

reply

I agree with Vamp. OOT has been become hugely overrated recently just cause of comparisons of TP, WW, MM and a few others to it.

reply

A couple quick points: The prize for all 100 gold skulltalas was infinite rupees, they give you 200 every time you visit. Also, you can complete the dungeouns in any different orders. A lot of people I know beat the Spirit Temple before the Shadow Temple. It's the same as in the first or second game, you might need an item from a different temple but you don't actually have to have beat the other temple. And there were some sweet sidequests in OoT. Biggorons sword anyone? You're right, MM had the most and best sidequests. But seriously, ALTTP had more sidequests than Twilight Princess.

I love Ocarina of Time. Majoras Mask and A Link To The Past are in that same tier at least. But Twilight Princess? It's a lot of fun, but it's uninspired.

I like Majora's Mask alot more than OoT. To me OoT was fun but I have no desire to play it again. I guess I just don't like that kind of style cause I'm not a TP fan, either, though I've finally come to appreciate it.

It's a sad thing that your adventures have ended here
