Believe me, i love animals - had a cat for years - but i couldn't care less if they are killed on screen simply because i know it is mere make-believe.

Never understood people who feel the need to whine about it on the internet afterwards.

I am personally more shocked to see a human being being hurt because as distasteful as it might sound, a human life is more precious than an animal's. I know a lot might take issue with that statement, but remember, i am not talking in absolute terms, but in relative ones.

The same way a bug's or a mouse's life is less relevant than a cat's life to a cat, a human life is more relevant to a human than any other life form.

The easy way to prove this is the following mental exercise: if you had to save/kill your pet or your daughter/brother, who would you choose? If you had to save/kill a stranger or a random animal, who would you choose? If you had to save/kill a stranger or your own pet, who would you choose?

I think an overwhelming majority of the people would systematically choose to save the human being and to kill the animal precisely because of this natural intraspecies empathy that virtually no one can escape. I understand this human being and his fear because I am this human being, just another version of it. On the other hand, I love this cat but I am not this cat, and as such i can relate to it only to a certain point.

The opposite is simply sick and immoral. You simply cannot choose your pet or any animal when a human life is in the balance. And even if you do, you will only difficultly live with yourself afterwards. Because how will you be able to justify it to others or yourself? You won't.

This is why i think people should simply get a grip and be consistent with the fact that if -I presume- they couldn't care less if a human is tortured and killed on screen, they shouldn't care less either if an animal is killed on screen. Why? Because in both cases, it is an illusion.

Anyway, my 2 cents.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²
