Hi, I found the cast list but due to strict guideliness about taking information and placing it elsewhere, you can see this list on the site:

go to current projects and then you'll find some info on the movie

So far the only problem I have is that caligari looks SO stupid. He looks like a nice grandfather in stupid clothes. He needs to look more psychotic and frightening.

Stop this before I report you to IMDB.

You are an immature, useless tool. If you did your homework you'd see that A.I. and The Exorcist are two movies I enjoy discussing the most, and it has been that way for a very long time. Oh, and this as well. These are simply three of my favorite movies. If you want to talk about them then you need to be an adult and be prepared to talk to others who like them. It's pretty simple.

Grow up and get over yourself. IM me with another childish accusation again and I will report you. Period. This is your final warning.

Thanks... I've had a look at the highlander site, and the company seems to be one that doesn't make concessions to 'mainstream', or commerciality... (at least, that's the impression I got). Which is one point in its favour. I wonder whether the release will even hit our cinemas! I am not entertaining high hopes... at all. But I am willing to put aside my skepticism for a while, and take on its own terms whatever they might have to offer. Who knows, it might even do justice to the original. Though it could NEVER EVER replace it. I suppose the surprise is really that no one so far has ever attempted a remake of Cabinet... Well, it's so inimitable really - it's surrounded by its own kind of aura, which would be very daunting to anyone thinking of recreating it

The film is destined for release sometime in the spring, and PLEASE don't think it is intended to replace the original in any way. It's an innovative and interesting way to re-discover the strange and wonderful world of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

There will be an official site for the film in due course, but there's a little info here:

reply

official word is that it'll be released in summer or fall. it's still in post production. the official movie site will be up soon, so that'll have more information. btw, i got all this information by using the 'contact us' link on highlander films' website, and got a very fast response. so, i'm sure if you have any more questions, you could ask and get an answer quickly. :) hope this helps.

reply

okay .. that's nice to know. :) cause when I read here the release date said today i was a little confused (and excited lol)

thanks for the heads-up!

yeah, i too got excited when i saw the release date last week. my hopes were quickly shattered when i saw my local limited-release theatre didn't have it listed.

i saw your fansite... man, he has beautiful eyes! the new official word on the release date is summer or fall, not spring. those screencaps are cool, where'd you get them? some of them aren't even on the highlander site or even doug jones' fansite, which has more pics than highlander.

reply

I got them from the man himself. :) Judson sends me photos all the time to add to the site.

*fangirl envy*

lucky. is he going to send you more caligari caps? i was hoping that highlander would put more up, but i was told it's unlikely until they put up the official caligari page a little later. i'm totally starving for information and pics from this movie. :D

reply

He told me that what he sent me would be the official photos. I used to have colored behind-the-scenes photos on my site but I had to take them down because he said they're trying to get all the photos on the internet to be the same ... black and white and whatnot.

I don't know if he'll send me more. :) He did say that he was gonna email me when the official caligari site was up and running .. he gave me the link to it already. lol, i've been going to it every other day seeing if it was up or not. ha, so i'm starvin' just like you (actually, i've been starvin' since last August! lol)

ok, i guess i have little room to complain, then. though i will, anyway. :D i only just heard about this remake last week, and i guess the page for it here on imdb has only been up since late december. so could you give us the addy? or is it hush-hush till the site is up? cause i'm rather fond of fangirl excercises like checking a site multiple times in a short period of time to see if it's updated. yup, i'm a dork and fond of it. :D

reply

Sorry, I think I'm going to keep it hush-hush for now cause really ... all it says is "This website is coming soon." ... it'll be better to look at when there's actual stuff up :D

Holy * this is a surprise, I was just having a conversation about twist endings which promted me to mention Dr. Calagari, which prompted me to think about a remake, of course Burton occured to me, and Depp probably too, so I came on Imdb to check because I couldn't recall cesare's name off the top of my head and found out about this.... verrrrrry interesting. Seems like an intriguing path they've decided to take, though I'm still thinking about the huge Burtonisque effects and surrealist style possible on a big budget(though there'd be a lot of room to mess it up there of course) and a similar surealist performance from Depp, this remake is certainly more than a little interesting to a fan of the original like myself.

reply

I was watching the original this morning and started thinking "wouldn't it be great if someone remade this with actual TALKING and better quality film?" Seems that someone beat me to it.
For some reason, I saw Wallace Shawn as Caligari. (More accurately, I saw the guy who played Caligari the first time around as sounding like Wallace Shawn)

reply

yay! a little more news. last i knew, the film is still in post-production (probably until mid-july) and they're hoping for a release sometime this year.

this makes me a sad fangirl. :( they were previously hoping for a summer or fall release. i wanna see this movie already! the suspense is killing me! and that wouldn't be good - i'm the type of fangirl who sees a movie two or three times in a theatre... the movie industry can't afford to have me be demised. :D

the movie still doesn't have a website. however, there's some new pictures on the production company's website (under 'current projects'). and that makes me a happy fangirl. there's a few non-dorky pictures of cesare. yay. sorry, but some of the pictures (like the one where he looked like he got jostled during shipping in his box) aren't too flattering.

anyone else have any news? i know two of you on here likely know more than i do. i envy your fanishness and actor fanpages. :D

oh, same here. i usually get seriously pissed off about remakes. i mean, i'm usually complaining about how almost all the movies coming out lately are remakes, sequels or adaptations. but this was definately done with care, and in interest of making a good product, not just making money. i just really hope they can get a distributor soon.

reply

Thanks for the headsup! I love seeing new pics. LOL Every other day I've been looking for updates. I really want to see this movie too and quite possibly add it to my collection when and if it's released. ;) hehe

Oh - and no news coming from me ... i've got nothin' lol

awww... *snif* and it was you i was specifically thinking of when i asked if anyone had any new info. well, last time i emailed highlander, they seemed a little tight-lipped with the info, much more so than when i've emailed them previously. so i guess we're not gonna get any new info till the site is up, whenever that will be. :(

and don't even think about 'if' it will be released. think 'when'. i'd seriously hate for this film (which is almost finished in post production as far as i know) to languish on a shelf somewhere because it couldn't get a distributor.

it's too bad that the powers that be in hollywood don't read fan message boards sometimes... then they could see how much support this film has already, even though all we've seen is a few pictures. the fanbase is out there - all we need is for a distributor to realize this, and distribute the film.

Don't worry - the reason it's taking so long to come out is that the work is very painstaking and director David Fisher is doing the work virtually on his own with only one other helper. It's taking time because it has to be done RIGHT.

When the time is right the film will be pushed, have no fear. It's an independent production with no big studios involved, so it takes all hands on deck to shove this one down everyone's throat - including Nici and myself, who do official sites for Judson Morgan and Doug Jones respectively.

There is a teaser poster up on Dougie's site (see URL below and check out the film on his filmography) which was designed for the SATURN AWARDS last month, and a few minutes of the film were shown at FedCon in Germany in April, and the audience went wild.

Hang on in there - it's a comin' ...

reply

ok, i feel a little better now. i was afraid, because the film was being pushed back so many times, that it might not be released. and that would make me sad. now that i know why it's taking so long, i can be patient. i'm glad that it's getting the time and attention it deserves, and isn't just being rushed.

I actually ran across this movie pretty much the very day it was added to IMDb. I had recently done a little Caligari remake of my own - "Dead by Dawn", and had JUST finished its sequel, "Dead by Dawn 2: The Mask of Conrad". As I was adding "Caligari" to the "movie connections" section of their IMDb pages, I came across this remake - I'm excited to see it!

It'll be great to see a faithful modern adaptation. Mine was pretty cheesy - budgetless, color video, etc - basically toying with updating the story as a modern stalker flick. I'm actually significantly prouder of "Dead by Dawn 2", which was done in black & white and had a slightly stronger expressionist feel.

If anyone's curious, info on both is at www.mobledqueen.com

And meanwhile, I'll waiting for Fisher's version to come out!

Cheers,

E

Since a lot of people seem to be interested in a remake of Caligari as directed by Tim Burton, I was just wondering if anyone has seen his short claymation film entitled "Vincent." I came across it on the Special Edition R1 DVD of The Nightmare Before Christmas (along with his other short entitled "Frankenweenie"). Anyway, "Vincent" has The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari's expressionist style all over it and it is abundantly clear where Burton's influences lie. In my eyes, this short proves that Burton would be a very worthy director to make a respectful remake of Caligari, stylistically speaking at least. Check out the short if you haven't. It's quite an intriguing little piece. Anybody agree or disagree?

reply

I agree i've seen the short and it reminded me of this.

I thought the best persont to play Caligari would be Sean Connery.

Tim Burton was at one point going to re-make Caligari, but I'm not sure what happened.
