I can't believe it...

Okay, I might be setting myself up to be shot down but after a quick glance through the boards I can't see anyone adressing the one thing that really bothers me about this film...

Expressionism

I haven't actually watched this film but I did look at a few clips on youtube and from what I've seen I think that it is awful that they could even think of trying to re-make this film using green-screen technology, the whole point of these expressionist films is the imagination and personal feelings being portrayed through the set design, they made almost everything in a studio and even painted the shadows onto the sets, so to just digitally replicate the sets for this film is ridiculous, they should have stayed true to the ways of the original and built the set because otherwise you lose the overall feeling.

Tim Burton was supposed to be directing a re-make in the 80's of Caligari and I think...no, actually, I'm certain that he would have done a much better job especially in terms of putting across the expressionist ideas of emotion and feelings linked to the set design, he would have definately had the sets built from scratch!

If you get the DVD and have a look at the behind the scenes documentary, you eill see that it was NOT all CG - much of the set was practical FX as well. It's a fantastic combi-platter of state-of-the-art digital mastery and the recreation of the sets. It's really worth a look.

Watch the film and then get back to us, thanks...

Looks like he never actually watched the film. Just like 95% of the people on this board who decided to rant about something they haven't even seen aside from perhaps a 3 minute clip of it.
