WHAT IS THE POINT OF A RE MAKE?

Some one give me one good reason why re makes should be done. Re makes are for filmmakers that have no originality. Re makes are the anti- modernism.

"Modernism: The deliberate departure from tradition and the use of innovative forms of expression that distinguish many styles in the arts and literature."

Ah. A 'purist.' Whether this is a 'remake,' or 're-imagining,' or whatever it is you wish to call this version of the film, I can assure you it is very, VERY original indeed. Personally I LIKE tradition, so in that respect I guess, as an historian, film fan and a particular fan of the original CALIGARI, I am disgracefully anti-Modernist. And David Lee Fisher's version of this quintessential horror film is remarkable not only for its originality but also for its devotion to and love of Herr Wiene's classic.

But, in the end, if you are a Modernist by religion then be blinkered and don't go see it. No one's forcing you. But I think you'll be missing something interesting.

Totally agree, i liked the original and i like this too.

I think this version is no way harming to the original and see no reason to moan about it. In fact i couldnt wait to see it simply out of curiosity and had to order a regeon 1 DVD from the States as it doesn't seem to have been released in the UK.

They tried to re-create it even using a lot of the backgrounds from the original movie and added the dialogue. I think this will bring a whole new audience to it and shouldn't dissapoint fans of the original.

There are LOTS of folks who wouldn't ordinarily be exposed to a movie from 1920 and/or a silent movie. I for one, am one.

Good movie, IMO...
