So they pretty much already


know what the ingredient will be and all the dishes they are going to make before the show right? Reason I say that is there is no huddle with the chef to discuss what to do and what prep needs to be done and the dishes just appear at the end with minimal interaction between the iron chef and their sus chefs.

Sometimes they show the huddle. But yeah, According to the Wikipedia page the chefs are shown a list of potential main ingredients beforehand and are asked to list what aditional ingredients they would need for each one.
Helps them in the long run, but it does take away from the dramatic surprise element.
I like to think that the list of potential ingredients is like 100 long, 99 fake and 1 real.
