I'm startled by how serious people are thinking of this film, even those who enjoyed it. Didn't anyone find certain parts of it funny? I sure did! I also loved all the costumes and colors in this film. And once the plot was comprehensible, I got more into the movie.
What scenes did you find funny?
I loved the scene in the boat, and the sequence following, in which Ziyi's asking the prince to peacefully die so she can feed her parents.
I cracked up when she "admits" being a poor peasant with hungry parents, and the prince responds kindly, and then she suddenly says, with a big grin on her face,
"Raccoon broth is best!"
I also loved her singing: perfectly suited to the whimsey of the film.
