Romantic Comedy.

I just watched this a week ago. It wasn't a great movie by any means, but I found it very amusing in it's use of anachronisms and it's silly love story. It basically spoofs (or rips off) all the Crouching Tiger, Flying Dagger and Zatoichi movies with all the characters, swordplay and romance.

My main problem is it was marketed as another in the line of those aforementioned movies when it's anything but. It's more of a romantic comedy that takes many elements from those movies. Any negative criticisms seem to come from the expectations the audience wanted due to the deception in its promotion. If you watch the trailer, all you're seeing are the action scenes which are very standard and not anything special for the current state of the genre. But most of the script and acting is very comical and silly. Far from Wilson Yip's best work. More of a movie for the young girls.

Yeah, the box on this was really misleading. And also the first 20 or so minutes have lots of action, so when it trickles to a halt, you begin to wonder what the hell is going on with this movie.

I enjoyed it, though, even the lame jokes. Like wasn't he kind of a dumbass to keep staring up into a rainstorm in the first place? That boy ain't right. And I think she was a sap to give up the prince.
