Is it true she repeats the same characters over and over? I've only seen the one episode so far?

Her new series started here in the U.K. last week, and it was very hit and miss. The first sketch was the 'Am i bovvered!' school girl, and talk about milking it, it went on, and on, and on.....way too long. The only sketch that was really funny was the foul mouthed granny, she was on form as usual. I'll watch next week to see if it gets better.

'left alone, in the dark, seeking out your lost soul.....'

I expected that first sketch to end but it did go on and on but in a good way! She extended the joke beyond the natural punchline and kept running with it, mqaybe it's because I've never seen it before but I thought it worked and was very brave to even attempt a single gag for such length. She carried it off, and had the confidence in her own performance to even attempt such a thing. I thought it was arefreshing change from the typical sketch format. We need more of this kind of daring to be different comedy on TV.

I thought it was brilliant. She is totally the best comic at the moment. She is so much more consistent with laugh out loud moments. It's about 100x better than Little Britain (and that is a show that friggin repeats itself.)

I wasn't a HUGE fan of the first series but obviously something sunk in so I'm appreciating her second series more. But like you said it's better than Little Britain. The second series of Little Britain was poor. The first series was pretty good but it really only had about one good idea per show.

The real problem with this sort of character driven comedy is it reduces it all down to catch phrases (loadsa money!!!) I look at a sketch and know the end and I'm disappointed. It seems a lot of other people look at a sketch and know the ending and they feel good about themselves.

Catherine Tate uses her catchphrases just like Little Britain, but she just seems to do it better.

OTOH, if you're in the UK you will have probably noticed a shift from LB to CT anyway which has nothing to do with merit, it's just the quest to be the coolest of the cool. The LB guys had been on TV for years before Little Britain. They did the Rock Profiles skit with Jamie Theakston. They did Sir Bernards(I think) Home. All on the 3 viewer BBC Choice back in the day. They've had almost seven years to bleed their creative talent dry so it's understandable if the second series of LB wasn't that good. Catherine Tate is lucky because she's never done anything of any real merit up until last year. Nobody is going to crucify her for failing so she has an opportunity to excede the critics and create a body of work that is so exposed to popular critical acclaim that no single critic, no critical movement, can deride her work.

Whoa man. This show is beyond awful, beyond terrible. The characters are unoriginal, theyve been done better before as well. Shockingly unfunny. She isnt even that great an actress. Im from Birmingham, and she just couldnt pull off a Brummie accent. Why is this even on tv? BBC 2 need to do some serious rethinking. Bravo to BBC 2 for snagging Family Guy though. But, seriously, please take Catherine Tate off the air.

This is so close to drivel. The BBC are promoting CT as the best thing in comedy, and the best female performer, ever. This show is painfully unwatchable. British Comedy is so much better than this. When I think of Steve Coogan, Simon Pegg, Green Wing, etc this show just hurts. Little Britain was a one-trick show and I was sick of it soon but it still started from a better point than this. If you want to laud female comedy, watch Smack the Pony, which had wit and energy. I'm embarrassed by the C- effort of the material here.
