Battered veg

Although there are many, many hilarious moments in this show, my favorite ever is the couple who visited Leeds and went into a pub. That whole scene is the highlight of the show. the way they top each other explaining about the Thai people ("not the customers, people making food!", and adding that Thai people are "basically, Chinese"), the "tempura", and then the "battered veg!" exclamation, followed by a significant silence.

I'm in stitches whenever I watch that, just the way they're totally scandalized for not being able to order fish and chips in a pub. "Give me strength." and "I'm only flesh and blood."

Then he adds, with a significant look on his face: "this is in Leeds!"

After the "battered veg" and "veg... in a batter", just as he thought he had said it all, he gets reminded by the wife about something, and then he throws his hands up in despair and unleashes another tirade:

"Oh, listen to this -- this is un-believable! They brought us jam (shows a small circle with his thumb and index finger) -- little clump of jam, just like that, but -- spicy! Spicy jam!"

""11 pound forty! For two pieces of battered veg... and a clump of spicy jam!"

"Dirty, evil, robing bastards!"

Yeah, I'm always happy when BBC re-runs this series. The supporting cast is absolutely amazing. There is nothing in the States that can compare. SNL is an amateur group by comparison.

All of the recurring skits are dynamite, but my favorite is a one-timer: the persecution of ginger people. "Not in my neighborhood." Always cracks me up.
