Am I the only one who completely HATES the Catherine Tate Show???

IMO, Catherine Tate is the most un-funny piece of crap ever to be allowed to be called comedy. Heres why:

1. I know that all sketch shows are repetative, but this is just lazy writing. It is EXACTLY the same situation for each character every week. At least Little Britain manged to have a little variety, and Mitchel and Webb are better still, but this has none. Every episode is boring and IDENTICAL to the last.

2. You cannot relate to any of the characters what-so-ever. The grandmother is just rediculous. No-one talks like that. Being a teenager at a state comprehensive school, I have the best idea of what teenagers are like, and let me tell you now, they're nothing like Lauren. Sure, they have attitude, but her character is just a completely in-accruate piss-take.

3. I do not rate Catherine Tate as an actress at all. She is crap in Dr Who and crap in her program as well. she talkes as if she is reading from a script the entire time. It does my head in.

So now no-one can have a go at me for not giving valid and justified reasons for why I hate this show. At the end of the day, these are just my opinions though, please feel free to give me yours. Thanks.

I completely agree, IMHO the show is absolutely terrible
fair dues if people get cheap thrills laughing at repeated catch-phrases but really it did not need three series, after one episode i'd seen it all.
I just hope she can redeem herself with this returning doctor who role, but as of yet not looking v promising

reply

Don't like that one...

EDIT: Now that I watch the first episode, I don't really like it either, not that funny.

From one Harry to another:

You are not alone in the universe.

I have often been told that The Catherine Tate Show would not appeal to me; but, until this evening, I had never seen it; nor have I ever watched Dr. Who, so I cannot comment on her performance in that. Occasionally, I had seen a couple of minutes of her "Show", but never an entire orogramme.

As I had nothing else to do this evening, I watched Mitchell and Webb, who did not make me laugh but made me grin twice in half an hour. This is a very low rate of success

Next on was Catherine Tate. I didn't even smile once.

"She tried to make me laugh.
I didn't get the joke,
And then I said she wasn't right in the head."

I do not say that of her. Indeed, I wish this young lady no harm, but I should be very interested to learn exactly why her show should be considered in any way amusing.

Incidentally, I didn't even bother to look at the third show in the strand "Thursday Nights are Funny", which was something called "Empty", as I couldn't cope with three laughter-free zones in a row, so I watched the News on the other side, instead. Judging from what I had seen immediately beforehand, I imagine that the endless tales of murder and violent death and the forecasts of the coming recession were, probably, funnier.

reply

Completely agree with you

I've tried so so hard to enjoy "Mitchell and Webb" as i've v much enjoyed peep show but its really a laugh free zone!

No matter what BBC2 want us to think thursdays really aren't funny anymore, guess we just gotta put up with the drivel that british comedy has sunk into

reply

No it's crap. It's funny most of the threads are about not liking it!

*insert worthless quote here*

Catherine Tate seems to me like the girl who did stupid accents at school and was told she was hilarious by everyone, but she is just annoying. At the very least Little Britain had some originality, but Catherine tate is just dull.

reply

I agree, the show is cringeworthy. It doesn't even make me smile or chuckle to myself. You know Ricky Gervais' terrible comedy show he does on Extras? Well to me The Catherine Tate show is the same sort of thing, all catchphrases and trying to get laughs out of chavs (the only people who can relate to any characters).

One of the worst shows on tv.

To Andrewinferior: There's no accounting for taste, especially yours.

You must have only watched one Little Britain episode.

Also, the whole Gran thing you're saying no-one talks like that, that's the point. All Grans are like she is when she is nice, saying she doesn't need help or for anyone to put themselves out and it's just a joke on what they could be like in private.

You sir, are a bearded imbecile.

This series is re-broadcast from time-to-time on BBC America and I always watch. She is brilliant. Don't understand some of you Brits not liking her. You all sound like a bunch of drudges. If you didn't think the sight of the sparkling candle in the Elaine Figgis skit(the execution episode), or the menacing protesters at the end of the "ginger hate campaign" were out-and-out knee-slappers then you just don't get great comedy. Can't imagine what you do find funny. She and every one of her cast are head-and-shoulders above anything we have in the States. Brilliant. Every loving one of them.

reply

It would seem better if you're from the states. In britain every show is like this, its no longer original to us

reply

The thing is.. whats knee slapping funny to you, isn't exactly so to others. It's like canned beets, fried zucchini and any other food, some people would die to have it, some people can't stand even looking at it.

I love Python, the Young Ones, Mitchell/Webb, Lewis Black, etc etc... and some people don't. But its not like they don't know great comedy, they just have their own idea about what it is.

Whats not cool is attacking them about it.

reply

Don't worry tillthen, not half as many brits hate this show as the message boards would suggest. I think some of the sketches are wicked. The filthy-mouthed gran and her poor grandson are hilarious. This kind of show isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, it's just for a laugh, and I think on the whole it works well.

I like it! It seems like people expect tv shows to change their life. Most shows are just spose to give you some light laughs. Just relax!

That was totally uncool. Especially the use of the personal insult.

Anyway, I've never seen it, was tempted to once or twice when Python was ending and it came on right after, but I wasn't too moved to do it. I caught a snippet they showed where she played some moronic nurse and I wasn't all that impressed with it. But then again, I felt the same way about Mitchell/Webb and I ended up loving it.

reply

No, you're not. It's godawful.

reply

I agree although you forgot to mention that it's just not funny. Funniness is required for a comedy show to be entertaining (not successful though).

reply

I think Catherine Tate is an actual genius when it comes to her sketchshow... she is exceptionally talented, and every character in her show practically leaps off the screen.

If you want dull comedy, look at Katy Brands big ass show or Tittybangbang.

reply

I just brought series 1 & 2 because I was told it was super funny. It was going cheap so I thought I would check it out.

Worst.Mistake.Ever

I painfully made my way through season 1 and probably won't even bother with season 2.

While I agree CT does a good job in transforming herself into different characters, it just is not funny. Not funny at all. I didn't even crack a smile through the whole thing. It is repetitive and predictable. You know exactly what is going to happen in every skit.

...without passion, we would be truly dead...

reply

I just watched some of an episode and the background audience was laughing but what are they laughing at? I didn't even crack a smile.

reply

Don't worry. It's only because you're a dolt.
