Why speak English at times?

This is the first Bollywood movie I've seen, and was confused as to why they speak in English phrases half the time? Can someone please explain?

That's the way they talk in Hindi-speaking parts of India, part Hindi and part English. Not all Indians take to it, but English is taught, encouraged and, of course, they watch lots of British and American television and movies. The British ran the place for about 100 years after all. I don't know the answer as to why it's done in Indian movies but it could be they do it to attract a bigger audience. The Indian diaspora is everywhere including English speaking countries. I am American and I haven't watched too many films, but I recommend My Name is Khan and Laagan. Enjoy!

English is one of the official languages (of many) of India and is used widely in government, education and the media.
