This sucked

I caught a screening of this at a recent film fest and was not impressed at all. Seems like a huge waste of time and money.

Looking at your posting history, it does not appear that you view many documentaries; you seem most interested in films with the word "Superman" in the title.

I'm not saying that this devalues your opinion; but I am curious as to whether there are any biographical documentries that you do like.

I wouldn't be so harsh in judging this film. It is an interesting story regarding a troubled soul who lives outside the consumer world, though apparently always wanting to have been successful inside of same.
While I don't think much of his music, it is his drive for creativity that has to be appreciated as any others. At best a fringe performer with a cult following, that always includes those who want to declare genius at work.
Sorry. Schizophrenic and manic depressive at work who managed to find a niche in odd music of the Dr. Dementia kind. The shame for Wild Man is that even that smallish market was not receptive enough to support him in any real financial sense.
So... music - not so good... story - compelling and sad. A reasonable target as a documentary.

"Dr. Dementia"?

For those of us who can remember the sheer craziness of "My Name is Larry", this flick filled in a lot of blanks. Even before Dr. Demento picked it up, a local radio deejay played it here in my small town. It was a novelty hit one summer when I was a kid.

Also cool seeing Zappa and Barnes and Barnes -- neither of whom I knew were involved in Wildman's story.

If the brother and claims of the family are to be believed then this guy was just a spoiled brat with mental problems that needed a good ass whoopin growing up.

*I kinda take back that statement...made it before I watched the entire film. He is a very interesting person, but I do think a lot of his behavior comes from just being a brat more so than his mental afflictions.
