Investors beware

Whether or not the accusations about Big Sky's business practices are correct there is no getting around the fact that the initial revenue for WLI is disappointing.

Given the number of name actors involved one would have expected a better showing at the box office.

If nothing else this points to the importance of promotion and advertising and how hard it can be to get the masses in to the theaters.

Note that in spite of what anyone tries to say there are both good and bad reviews for this film, people who like it and those who do not, and clearly the vast majority of people do not know since they have not seen it.

There are enough people out there who would enjoy this to make it financially successful but at this point it is not.

So, if you are thinking about investing money in to a movie, this experience does show one thing, no matter how good things might look, and how optomistic people might be, you can lose all of your investment and you should never let this possibility escape your thinking before and after you write the check.

A lot of people do not have the chance to see it because it is not playing in their area. Others are not aware of it, I think, because of the limited advertising.

I am sure unfavorable reviews cause some people to pass on it.

I think that what is proved here is the power of distribution. We all go and watch basically free advertising for upcoming events before we watch the movie that we pay for. It is a huge factor in building awareness.

Had this movie been advertised broadly and placed in 2000 theatres it would have done just fine.

I know you do not like the company because of what you saw in Park City and I understand that the style of WLI overwhelms some people. But others do enjoy the movie.
