What language is this movie in? Where can I purchase it?

The description for this movie simply says "Language:Japanese / English"

I've never seen a movie where you can pick languages in the menu before, so what does this mean?

Does it mean that there is a version with the actors speaking English and another version where they speak Japanese?

Does it mean that the movie is spoken in Japanese but has English subtitles?

Does it mean that some of the movie is spoken in Japanese and the other parts are in English?

How will I be able to tell what version I am buying? If the title is "The Sun" does that mean it is in English? What should I look for?

Thanks!

Now, where can I purchase this movie?

I went to Amazon and the movie seems to be unavaliable at the time.
I went to eBay and the movie can be found: a Japanese version that has English subtitles, but also another version that does not specifically state language but has a different DVD cover - is it English?

Are there any other places I should look? I'm having trouble finding many.

Side-question: Does PAL as the region mean it will work on any DVD player? (as the description states?)

Thanks a lot!!!

Both Japanese and English is spoken in the film. Here you can purchase a DVD that has subtitles on the Japanese parts: http://play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/840437/The_Sun/Product.html

In films, painting and literature, theatre and music come together. But a film is still a film.

PAL=Europe. Might not work in US DVD players.

Most of the film is in Japanese and has English subtitles.

Please be sensible.

The questions you are asking are not about this movie, but about the versions you will eventually find when shopping for a VHS or DVD copy.

You've got two answers already. The first is correct: the film is mostly speaken in Japanese, and some dialogue in conducted in English - this is easy to the ear when spoken by American soldiers, but not so easy when spoken by Japanese characters, namely the Emperor. I've seen the original, international English version, and the titles and captions for the Japanese dialogue are in English.

The second answer is NOT correct. Try to google the Internet when you don't know something. The first entry you get for "PAL system" is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL

There you learn that not all European countries have the PAL system, and that you should read carefully all labels, sometimes in very small print, to know if the videotape runs well in your hardware (video or DVD player), or not.

No hard feelings, pal. (Not as in PAL, but as in friend movie fan...)
