Five reasons I loved Fanaa

1. Aamir can finally act again. His last two films were yawnfests for dimwits and patriots (RDB and MP) I'm neither, I'd like to think. Anyhow, I don't think he's acted better since Lagaan. I liked this film more than I liked Sarfarosh. Rangeela,to this day, remains his best film

2. Kajol - Now I've never found this woman pretty but by not being "a hyper happy/angry" girl, she has proved she can act alongside the great A.K
I liked how she blossomed in this film and didn't trip over wires or scream without much cause like she did in most films from the 90's

3. Direction - Kickass, Realistic storyline (well almost, considering the end)

4. First half - made me smile with that dialogue, "Ab tumhe dar lag raha hai" I mean, call me a corny 22year old kid but it was really impressively done

5. Music - Subhaan Alla, Subhaan Alla....Goodness, you gotta love Sufi'isque sounds.

Also, I have never seen a film at the theater alone but I saw Fanaa alone and I think it was a great experience. Noone was ready to go for this film. I'm glad noone likes it and it's just me who really goes on and on about it. Not many can appreciate a true work of heart(let alone mind)

Respect Aamir,Respect Kaajol, Respect Mr. Director, Respect reader

Nice to read the line'I loved Fanaa'.Though the film is a huge world-wide hit,it's been torn apart by most critics and quite a few viewers.I liked the film very much inspite of loose scripting full of holes.I did not find the 2nd half tedious as some complained.Overall, a feel good film with my fav actors and some lovely music. But I disagree with regard to RDB and MP.The first was a rocking entertainer that left one thinking;the second was a good attempt at rewriting History[and invoking the wrath of historians and purists.]I enjoyed MP along with its music which I loved even more than the film.Toby Stephens was a shade better than Aamir[esp in the final court-martial scene],as his role was better written;but Aamir was good too in certain scenes --marching ahead up to gun and shouting 'Fire';in the climax, yelling'Pick up your guns, the time has come!';in the hospital, calm, telling Gordon'Aap nahin samjhenge.'
But this thread is about Fanaa, so I'll end with this thought:I hope Aamir's career and life don't get Fanaa'd due to his speaking up for Narmada displaced and[consequently] annoying Gujarat govt.I've read that the Guju govt has started a case against him for not taking proper permission while filming protected chinkara deer for Lagaan. The film was released in 2001 and has won numerous accolades since then[the latest is that it is one of the 50 all-time greats reccomended by BBC].And now the authorities look for and find something to hit Aamir with.Talk of political vendetta.

1. Aamir-Kajol scorching chemistry and brilliant performance

2. The whole scene when Zooni discovers that Cat Ranjeev is Rehan.

3. Soothing traditional Indian songs, a relief escapes from the current high pitch nasally sung songs and very busy musical arrangements aka Westernized songs...

4. The silences throughout the movie

5. Breathtaking cinematography

Padam, my friend, the whole deal with RDB and MP is that they in more ways than one, HIGHLIGHT the Indian attitude towards various things. RDB - 4 guys with no direction in lives are influenced by a cooped up Brit girl? One guy shoots his father up cause he's so influenced? I kept waiting for the film to start, it never did. I found it immensely cheesy and it rather formulaic. It tried to enhance DIL CHAHTA HAI's effect. I disliked the acting immensely. Upar Se - Generation Awakens? Gimme a break, man :)

MP highlights Indianism. It makes one belong to with-held intestinal fortitude of heart and will despite showcasing Mangal Pandey. His life, in my eyes, was a waste. The last 5 minutes of the film proved so. It took 90 further years... Yet, I thought it was just bad. RDB was a stupidity fest. I saw it twice, to see what people saw.

Sorry, man for the harsh words. I'm just too compassionate about movies.

I have not seen a bollywood movie in about 10 years and I just happened to watch Fanaa last week. I usually find bollywood movies boring or corny or just waaaay too long.

After watching Fanaa.... I am completely HOOKED! I love the movie, the songs (I usually hate their songs), the acting, the storyline...EVERYTHING! It's ridiculous how much I like this movie:) I decided to watch some older movies as well, like KKHH and KKKG... they're all so good and unbelievably romantic <3.

Any suggestions as to what other movies would be good to watch, since I probably haven't seen any of them?

reply

I don't have any romantic film recommendations. If you want something dramatic, try watching Sarkar, D and Gangster.
