shareIf we were talking about a Hollywood movie, I'd agree with the OP. Having anybody else as Freddy just wouldn't work, and would be an attrocity (unless maybe Robert Englund CAN'T do it, such as after his life time or whatever). However, we are talking about a fan film here.
I think it is great the fans are able to put together even a half-way decent film (or in this case, a freaking GREAT film) with the characters we love that we otherwise wouldn't see anything from. If you ask me, I think they did a darn good job. When you give them the benefit of the doubt and realize they are a low-budget (not to mention, made for fun and not for profit) FAN FILM, Freddy actually wasn't too bad. Giving them the benefit of the doubt (and realizing a fan film would NEVER be able to afford any of the real actors), it was almost like it was Robert Englund himself. After all, Freddy often had a deep, inhuman, monstrous voice, so it is very easy to use special effects to basically get a very similar voice.
