how is this on IMDB?

This is just a fan film. If this film is on IMDB, then why isnt all the millions of youtube videos on IMDB?

How can they use the characters and names from "Nightmare on Elmstreet" and "Ghostbusters". Both are copyrighted. When video game publisher Zootfly created a demo of a ghostbusters-themed game, Sony immediately made them take it off their site.

What gives? I'm a big Ghostbusters fan, but I support copyright laws. And I believe IMDb should be for legitimate films.

Half the films on IMDB I'd hardly call legitimate, and I'm not talking about fan films. Just because it isn't produced by a major studio, it was released for free, and there were no licensing deals done, doesn't mean that it's not legit.

A legitimate film is one that was made by skilled people with professional equipment using professional film making techniques. This film is far more legitimate than The Blair Witch Project.

It isn't as though just any fan film is allowed on here. There are obvious standards to which IMDb holds entries. I don't know what they are, but I am sure they have them. This movie was a pretty high profile and well known fan film. If any fan film deserves to be on IMDb, it is this one.

Also, I think it is a safe guess to assume that the only reason Zootfly was made to remove their videos was because a Ghostbusters game had secertly been in development already. For those who don't know it, a new Ghostbusters game has actually been in development for some time and is due to be released in October of 2008. You can read about it in the December issue of the Game Informer magazine.

My question is, why is not the other movie here? The Return of the Ghostbusters was a nice decent fan made movie.

"Why do you support copyright laws? They're utterly ridculous."

Oh, so I guess it's cool to steal peoples ideas and make them your own. It's cool to have someone copy a movie that you worked so hard on, and sell it for 5 bucks on the street.

That's the most dumbest thing I've ever heard. Copyright laws are to protect the owner. You probably wouldn't be saying it's stupid when someone steals your work. That being said, since this film is non-profit, such film companies won't take legal action for them making it, since they aren't making money off it.

If they ask for money, than that's another story.

I an't afraid of no ghosts!

Wait are u trying to say that in this day and age people still have ideas?

Blow me sideways I thought the human race gave up on thinking when my TV was overrun by 1000 cooking shows& a reality TV series based around any movie or any stereotype or even just plain old bollox, thanks for telling me mate it's rejuvinated my beleif in our exiastance.

BTW not being sarky just bored I do agree copyright laws should be upheld against ppl trying to make profit from it but summing like this which was never meant to ern a penny and just for fun it really makes no difference.

Copyright laws ARE utterly ridiculous. They are tools for the rich to manipulate public consumption. If copyright laws were just and followed to the letter by all individuals equally, nearly all of the early Disney characters would be in the public domain by now. But none of them are!!

Copyright laws are basically nothing more than a hammer used by the ultra rich against the rest of society. Unless you have billions of dollars lying around, there is nothing you can do to prevent your creation from slipping into the public domain after 50 years.

hell yeah, you think that it would be illegal for this to be on here. Lord knows that if it was a disney fan film they'd be on them like white on rice.

This is a little late, but one reason we were not hassled is because we may have actually helped boost sales, that's unofficial of course. Consider this, after a few fan films (not just ours) some attempts at an updated game. Suddenly the creators of this material have softened their stance a little about the possibility of a third film.

Whether it's true or not I'd like to think that Hank and myself and the rest of the cast and crew had something to do with that.

Heck, I don't think it is too far fetched to say that, actually. I wondered that myself. After all, when Freddy vs. Ghostbusters first came out, the Ghostbusters franchise had been pretty stalled for a while. Freddy vs. Ghostbusters was the first new anything we had seen in a while, and it felt like not too long after that a whole bunch of cool stuff started happening. I always thought that the popularity of both of Braxtan Film's Ghostbusters fan films had at least something to do with the Ghostbusters resurgance as of late.
