Word, yes! Trava is great. All of the Grasshoppa! and Studio 4c I've seen has been brilliant. I've only got lofi web rips though, as not much of this stuff makers it to the states. Guess I'll need to psych myself up to order from Japan someday when I can afford.

Koji Morimoto's short film "Noiseman Sound Insect" is also amazingly surreal and well done - very much recommended!

definitely FLCL!!!!!!

as for non-anime... tetsuo: the iron man.

I freaking love Cat Soup!!! And i freaking love Dead Leaves!!!
So that may help :)
Its not exactly the same, but its probably more trippy than Dead Leaves! big statement, but i tihnk its true, at least in the sense of what its about, but it doesnt put you in as much of a trance as DL. It looks like a real cutesy film, but its pretty horrible in a few scenes, this film is one hell of a fairytale! it'll leave you with your jaw the same level it was at the end of DL, to the floor.
Tetsuo: Iron man is very similar, but its not animated, and Tetsuo 2 is surprisingly good, but more like an 80's action film than the first, but still worth a watch, and just a weeny bit worse as its not as manic.
Finally, i am not too sure about this but i also like Evil Dead II (not the first 1) for its manicness, maybe its just me but i thought it was real cool, but its not animated and its a horror, but still real cool.

As a matter of fact, I'm there right now.

I totally forgot, one of my all time favourite films, Natural Born Killers has a similar crazt feel to it. it isnt animation and its not a horror, even though the name sounds like it. if you havent already seen it watch it now! You won't regret it one bit!

The 80s Wesley Archer animation, "Jac Mac and Radboy Go!" probably inspired "Dead Leaves".

Ive found the perfect one, its like youre seeing double!

Trava Fist Planet

'Diebuster' is another one. While its content is tame in comparison to 'Dead Leaves', Imaishi did animate a lot of the stuff in 'Diebuster' and it features his trademark visual style that you see in 'Dead Leaves.'

'Gurren Lagann' is another choice, albeit an obvious one.

EDIT: oh, and while not a movie, 'Panty & Stocking' is definitely in the same vein of 'Dead Leaves.' Hilarious series. Everyone should watch it.
