Gurren Lagaan connection?

I recently finished Gurren Lagaan and then rewatched Dead Leaves. When it got to Penis Drill I was thinking that he had to be a reference to GL (manly combining lol), but then I checked the dates and saw that DL actually predates GL by a few years. Does anyone else think that his character may have been an influence on ... or maybe even the inspiration for GL?

Of course. It's only fitting considering Imaishi is the director of both titles.

The Penis Drill thing honestly sounds like a straight tribute to the Japanese horror classic, Tetsuo, Iron Man.
