plastic surgery

dyan cannon was almost scary looking after what seemed to be multiple procedures -- in fact her plastic surgery had the effect of making her seem older rather than younger. it seems that younger and younger actor/actresses are tweaking his/her looks. what do you think? would you prefer to have seen dyan au natural or is her current look appealing?

reply

I agree with you, Elsie. Dyan Cannon is 69, only two years older than Brenda Vaccaro. Brenda looked good, and it didn't look like she had any plastic surgery. Dyan's face looked so unnatural and stretched. I'd hate to see her without make-up. She was pencil thin which made her body look younger. I think she would definitely look better without surgical alteration.

Dyan Cannon looked painfully thin and her face looked terrible. She had awful looking scars around her mouth and her lips look liked they had too many collegen injections. The scene where she was rollerblading made me nervous, she looked so thin and fragile, I worried that if she fell, she would shatter into a million pieces.

Brenda Vaccaro, although heavier than she used to be, still looked pretty good, and if she lost some weight, would be smoking hot. Her face, although older, looked wonderful and radiant for her age, and she looked like herself and not surgically altered.

What was up with Sally Kellerman? She looked to be in good shape, although her face looked a bit stretched too. But I'll admit, she looked a million times better than Dyan Cannon.

Seeing Michael Nouri in this film was painful for me. I remember seeing him in Flashdance and the handsome hunk who woos Jennifer Beals. It shocked me to see him cast as a senior! But he still looks fantastic, just a little grayer.

reply

Whew! I thought it was just me. It was actually painful to watch Dyan Cannon's face. She reminded me of the Jack Nicholson character in Batman. I'm only 10+ years younger than these characters and I hope I look like Brenda Vaccaro rather than the skinny, freaky broads when I get to be almost 70.

Dyan Cannon looked so horrible I cringed every time she was back in another scene. I was hoping NOT to see so much of her in the movie. She looked ridiculous in those Teenage clothes. She looked like a total freak with streched skin and bubble lips.

This movie could have been better with someone else in her role. Can't think of anyone off-hand but maybe Farrah Fawcett would have been better even thought she's not quite old enough. Could have done without Sally Kellerman's senior boob flashing. Hike em up and keep em in a bra. Tight face and saggy boobs don't match.

BrendaVacarro looked fine. She could lose some weight and look alot better.

It had some funny lines but I would say wait til DVD or not at all.

I agree that Dyan Cannon looked worse, not better, with all her alterations, and freakishly thin. I also agree about Michael Nouri - he seemed out of place - he's still hot, and I think of him as much younger than these characters (in real life he's 7 or 8 years younger than Dyan Cannon). But I'm still glad to see him in this movie or any movie, especially cast as a romantic character!

I guess we all agree. As much as I like Dyan Cannon, I think they should have used someone else because she distracted us all from the movie. Her plastic surgery was terrible. If she had a nice, soft, more modern hair cut and weighed 20 pounds more she'd probably be a knock-out for her age (also, no lip injections). As it is, she's ruined her appearance and ruined all the scenes she appeared in. When she fell all I could think of was "osteoporosis" which she must have as a result of starving herself.

Another aspect of Dyan's procedure(s) on her face - she couldn't project emotion. It was sickening. The only thing that moved on her face was her eyes behind what really looked like a scary immovable mask. I agree with those that feel catty about mentioning this, I do too - but honestly, someone should tell folks getting into their later years (I am not too far off myself) that plastic surgery and botox can make you look much *worse*, not better.

I was really distracted from enjoying the film by this freak of, well, not nature - but surgery. Ewww. I loved Dyan Cannon in Author, Author and in that Beatty film... Too bad. Too bad. I bet she would have been very attractive with what nature had to offer, plus she would have been able to still act, i.e. move her face to portray emotions.

Dyan Cannon looks great for her age. And Kellerman's boobs are spectacular!

reply

Why can't they just stop having surgeries??? They all look horrible. Dyan was indeed hard to watch and especially with those clothes I wouldn't wear althought I am only 28. This is not attractive at all...at least for me.
Poor René Taylor seemed so old and wrinkled but maybe because she lost many weight and them gain them again and her sking had way to much son. But at least she didn't have plastic surgery. Oh and Sally should gain some weight too, she was to skinny.

I am 19 years of age and I love Sally Kellerman, for almost 70 years old she definately is in good shape. Her daughter Hannah is two years younger than me.

It seems like the topic has been pretty well addressed, but I'd like to add my frown to Dyan Cannon's phony face. I still love her as an actress, but her appearance now is downright distracting -- especially when you compare her with the others in the cast, who are aging gracefully and honestly. I couldn't help comparing her with Sally Kellerman when they were in scenes together. If Sally's had work done, it's not nearly as obvious.

I think she's always tried to keep up that "hot cougar" look she had back 20 years ago. The trouble is, she went too far for too long.

I just saw the movie. To me Diane Cannon's look was perfect, for the movie, because it was part of the humor -- an elderly woman getting too much cosmetic surgery.

Make a choice, to take a chance, to make a difference.

It was a little sad because I remember what a stunning woman she always was. Even as she was getting on a bit, she still looked wonderful. It was a little distracting but perhaps that was to the good - when she decided she was going to "save" Brenda Vaccaro, you could imagine the Brenda Vaccaro character looking up like "yeah, right, like someone like YOU would even be interested." But they struck up the kind of friendship you always dream of having.

And I love that Joseph Bologna and Renee Taylor still have a good marriage after so many years (specially most of them in film). That's a story on its own!

THANK YOU, Mike. I thought that was part of her character's charm.

I'm glad it's not only me that thinks so. Dyan looks disgusting - gross - repulsive. To tell you the honest truth, I can't even watch any of the scenes that she is in. It is just WAY too unpleasant. I had to fast forward through every part she was in.

It is about time more people who feel the way we do spoke up and let the idiots in Hollywood know that we are tired of FAKE, PLASTIC.

Oh, YUCH ! As I was writing this comment the scene with Dyan on the roller skates came on. GROSS. I am so incredibly sick of anorexic skeletons.

Hollywood - enough ! I just stopped watching the movie and deleted it from my DVR. It's becoming a theme in my writing here on IMDB, but I am boycotting movies that feature fake plastic unhealthy anorexic skeletons.

The reason I am doing so is because watching them makes me so angry. I am angry because of the thousands of women who see these movies and think they have to look this way. Many people suffer terribly and die from eating disorders because of these types of characters in movies.

We're watching the movie now. When I first realized that large woman was Brenda Vacarro I was dismayed to say the least. But after seeing Dyan Cannon I agree with all of the above. She's the one who looks scary and unnatural, while Brenda is, although a little overweight, the natural looking, normal person. Someone you'd like to know. It's possible for her to lose some weight, while Dyan Cannon's changes are permanent- and horrible.

I disagree. She looked great for her age, put the others in the movie to shame.
