Pretty Poor.

I have to say this was a very weak Wrestlemania.

The title matches were terrible and the only memorable moments weren't even matches: Stone Cold on Piper's Pit and Hogan coming out to beat up Hassan.

The title matches were too short.
The Kurt Angle/HBK match wasn't as good as it could have been, after all the hype it received.
The Sumo match was just a waste of time.
There was only 8 matches.

The only 2 good matches were: Randy Orton Vs Undertaker and Rey Mysterio Vs Eddie Guerrero.

So to everyone who didn't pay to see the event live on TV: You didn't miss much.

I can't believe people paid $50 to see it on cable in the US.
I thought paying £14.95 was bad enough.

reply

i disagree the HBK/Angle match was brilliant
Rey Mysterio vs Eddie was boring
Hogan coming out to help Eugene was a waist of time
but Randy Orton v undertaker was the best match

reply

The Kurt Angle/HBK match was awful

I didnt bother to read any further...

I thought it was better then last years WrestleMania. I was hoping to see a Cruiserweight/Tag Team/US Title Match.

I bet your a Jeff Hardey Mark if you said that about Angle/HBK

reply

To all the wannabe Fan-Boys, who claim they didn't read any further after what I said about the Angle/HBK match:
I have watched EVERY Wrestlemania and God only knows how many other PPV's over the years, so I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about.

OK, calling the match awful was maybe a bit harsh, but it wasn't by any means a classic. I expected it to be the best match at WM21 and it received a lot of hype to that effect and it just failed to deliver. It was an average match from 2 Wrestlers capable of better.

And overall, it wasn't a great Wrestlemania compared to other recent ones.

If HBK vs Angle wasn't a good enough match for you then you're either a spoiled snob who held too *beep* high of a standard, or an A.D.D. ridden teenager for whom a match needs ACROBATICS or HARDCORE~ for you to give care. Not even just considering that both men are past their prime and physically debiliated was it an excellent match, it was just an excellent match in general. What the *beep* was it missing? It had fantastic heat(especially compared to the rest of the card, what a crap crowd), fun near-falls, beautiful counters, high spots(which I'm sure you OMG LOVE), intensity, smart mat psychology and great storytelling from both wrestlers; just about all one could ask for in a classic. Lets see how many other guys on the *beep* WWE roster can put on a match like that, perfectly YOUNG and HEALTHY guys. Average match? You're clearly just biased against one or both of the performers.
And btw, if you found any other match on WM 21 to be a better match, then its YOU who's the fan boy. No one here who appreciated a brilliant wrestling match is a fan boy. Get over yourself and respect good wrestling.

Well allow me to retort:

First of all the Undertaker-Orton match was better. But the Angle HBK match was just behind it.
And no, I'm not a spoiled snob or an ADD teenager (I'm actually 24 and have a very dull, average job !!!)
And yes, I respect good wrestling and while the match between HBK & Angle was good (at the very most) it was still by no means one of the greatest ever or a classic as some people are suggesting.
Shawn Michaels has had better matches since returning from his injuries, especially his matches with Triple H which were vintage HBK and will go down as classics.
I still stick by what I said: WM21 was very dull compared to all the other recent ones, although you did make a good point about the crowd being crap which I think added to the drabness.

And as for other guys currently on the roster who could put on a better match, here's a list:

Chris Jericho
Chris Benoit
RVD
Eddie Guerrero
Triple H
Randy Orton
Rey Mysterio
Booker T
Shelton Benjamin

And as for classic matches, check out some of these and get yourself educated child !!!!

Ricky Steamboat Vs Macho Man - WM3
Jeff Hardy Vs Rob Van Dam - Invasion
Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin - WM13
Rock Vs Austin - WM17
Chris Benoit Vs Chris Jericho - Royal Rumble 2001
Hulk Hogan Vs Ultimate Warrior - WM6
TLC 2 - Hardyz, Dudleys, Edge & Christian - WM17
Ultimate Warrior Vs Rick Rude - Summerslam 89
Mr Perfect Vs Bret Hart - Summerslam 91
Shawn Michaels Vs Bret Hart - WM12
Kurt Angle Vs Brock Lesnar - WM19
Razor Ramon Vs Shawn Michaels - WM10
British Bulldog Vs Bret Hart - Summerslam 92
Rock Vs Triple H - Backlash 2000
Rock Vs Triple H - Judgement Day 2000
Shawn Michaels Vs Chris Jericho - WM19

Eddy vs Rey - Rey was unhappy with it because his chin strap broke, so he had to keep adjusting his mask. I thought it was pretty decent, though

Money in the Bank Ladder Match - Excellent match and amazing ladder spots

Eugene + MuHu + Hoan - Could have done without

Undertaker vs Orton - pretty good

Trish Stratus vs Christy Hemme - Major props to Trish for having to carry Christy through the match

Kurt Angle vs HBK - Excellent

Piper's Pit - Pointless

Akebono vs Big Showw - WTF?

John Cena vs JBL - Pretty good

Batista vs HHH - Pretty good

In fact I've seen every one of those matches on your list, and with the exception of Hardy-Rob Van Dam, which was one of the worst showcases of psychology I've ever seen, I agree on their being classics. I'd put Michaels-Angle above some of those matches, below a few others I enjoyed it very much and thought that the two put on the best match they could considering their physical limitations. As for your list of wrestlers who could put on an equal to better match:

Booker T, Randy Orton, Rob Van Dam, John Cena have yet to even come close to putting on a match of that caliber, and are all extremely limited performers(some more than others, like Cena & Orton). Triple H since his quad tear only seems to pull out a great match once in a blue moon, with the right opponent. Benjamin has yet to reach the quality but looks to be getting there(and his match w/ Michaels was a fantastic start). The rest of are equally capable as Michaels & Angle (except Jericho, he hasn't been an elite worker since 2001, IMO, but he's had his moments.) but all have yet to have a match in 2005 that impresses me as much as Angle-Michaels.

You have to understand the majority of fans disagree with you, and I don't what it is that made the match not click for you, but in WWE we should be glad whenever performers are working so hard in the ring. Of course that's not why I like the match...I already went through why I did, I think it had just about everything that a great match entails.

But there's no way Orton can have a match of that caliber, and no way that Hardy-RVD was anywhere close to being as good. I just have to re-emphasize that.

OK, I just think we'll have to agree to disagree on the Angle-HBK WM21 match.

But I have to strongly disagree with your comments about the RVD-Jeff Hardy match, even Jim Ross said it was one of the best matches he'd seen and Jeff Hardy has said it was one of his best matches. Although I do agree it did lack a bit in psychology, but it was one of the most exciting matches I've ever watched from 2 very big risk-takers. I'm not a big fan of Jeff Hardy, but this match was definitely a classic.

As for the others:

Chris Jericho - Criminally under-used. Enough said.
John Cena - Has potential, but he is getting annoying.
Randy Orton - You talk alot about the use of psychology in matches. This guy always uses it and that's why he's so good.
Booker T - We'll never really know because of his cheesy WWE character, but he had some great matches and was one of the stand-outs in WCW.
Triple H - Can still put on a great match when required, but he is over-exposed and people are getting a bit tired of seeing him with the title or feuding for it all the time.

hbk vs. angle is one of the best matches i've ever seen in my life..although their vengeance match was kind of weak but it had some good spots.

Eddy vs Rey - Disappointing. They had couple of good television matches leading into the event and than... this match happened. It had some promise, however, distraction of Rey's mask killed possible fun. The match was average and considering what these two had shown previously, it truly was disappointing.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match - Very good match, that had several fun spots. However, for match that had 6 men in there, more often than not, half of them would disappear...

Undertaker vs Orton - To be simple, it was good. On rare instance, there was chance behind of people's mind that there was chance that Undertaker would loose at WM (part of the reason why it was good). Also, be honest? How often do you see quality Undertaker match at WM...?

Trish Stratus vs Christy Hemme - Below Average. However, when you have someone who was freshly into wrestling such as Hemme, what do you except?

Kurt Angle vs HBK - Awesome. However, I will say that match is some what over-hype by some.

Akebono vs Big Showw - Trash of the Night and to be simple, its no worthy of discussion any further discussion.

John Cena vs JBL - Below average, especially for WWE title match at WM. To be simmple, prime example of match being screwed by the bookers, Vince McMahon (and probably one of the reason the fans eventually turned on John Cena, from my perspective). I mean, the match was what, 12 mintues...? How can you have WWE title match in that length of time? Stupid. It really was lame, especially that the match to my surprise, had faily decent build going into the match.

Batista vs HHH - I would say that this was okay. Nothing bad, nothing great... the awesome build and workrate of Triple H helped this match greatly.
