jill clayburgh
best part of the film for me. why no noms? odd.
shareOh, she was so good! Especially that last scene at the bus stop. I cried so hard.
shareShe WAS wonderful. When Augusten asked her what her dreams were and she said she was never 'fancy' enough to have dreams, it was so sad. It was doubly sad when he said, 'Your dream was to have a family' and then he said that was a good dream - I thought, how sad that he would never have a girlfriend and never have kids that were his own and a nuclear family. His experience with another gay man was so dismal - and yet, it was actually supposed to be good! So tragic.
shareAre you saying homosexuals can't have a happy family like heterosexuals or dream of having a family? Right, because "nuclear" families are just perfect.
Do you live under a rock?
Give me a *beep* break.
My favorite character- the ONLY Support for Augusten. Her daughters treated her horribly, her husband was everything but loving and compassionate. Agnes wanted a family, that was her dream, feeling meaningless and lost until Augusten turned up into her life. The ending of the film is overlooked, but sends tears into my eyes. Always.
Very happy to see that Jill Clayburgh was casted in this role- if you'd like to check out her other work- IMO, An Unmarried Woman is one of my favorite films.
yup, best part of the movie for me too. her role basically encapsulated the meaning of the movie...holding on to the desire for family
ps she does look like diane keaton
"She was absolutely fantastic in this movie - but so was Annette Benning!"
Completely agree. So heartfelt and multi-faceted and believable.
This movie's mixed critical reception and box-office flop doomed its attracting any awards notice, which is sad because certainly Clayburgh, Bening, Baldwin, Brian Cox and some others were as good or better than many of that year's more widely acclaimed performances.
shareJill Clayburgh's performance was definitely the movie's high point. She was fantastic in the final scene!
shareSo happy to see Jill Clayburgh in this film. Had not seen the whole thing till this week. Happily surprised with all of it. I remember the main trailer with Baldwin and Bening, was surprised to see Evan Rachel Wood, Gweneth Paltrow, and Joseph Feinnes as part of the cast. Then Brian Cox as the old psychiatrist...
"this is my masturbatorium!" Priceless.

I think the film turned off a lot of voters. Too bad because she really is terrific in this role. Really haunting and credible.
