Promotes pedophilia!

We are supposed to think its cute since its a boy with another man but its not. Its revolting and made me sick to my stomach. I had to fast forward through the parts when they were in bed.

reply

So, you go shooting around killing people when you see that on-screen, too?

Fast-forward most parts of any movie, then.

This movie didn't promote anything, just showed what was what. Sounds more like homophobia from your side, to be honest.

reply

Well you are wrong. There was no condemnation of a man having sex with a minor so this definitely promotes pedophilia. its totally sickening.

reply

It doesn't condemn anything. That's the point. These people, all of them, are so tragically lost in their lives where the line between wrong and right, fantasy and reality, sanity and insanity are completely blurred. It's not a story about political correctness and it certainly doesn't promote or glorify pedophilia.

reply

I think you really need to read all of the books by Augusten Burroughs to really understand just how much this relationship affected this man's life.

The movie doesn't condemn it, and no one in his life condemned it either. It really happened. It's not really promoting pedophilia so much is stating that it happened.

Exactly! The movie gives no opinion of it at all. It just shows what happened. I think the original poster has VERY strong negative feelings about gay guys. Also I think they were WAY off saying the movie promoted pedophilia. Just showing it ISN'T promoting it!

I would think the relationship DID affect him. Wasn't he only like 12 years old when his mother left him? They really should have had a younger actor play him...instead of the 18/19 year old Joseph Cross.

Would people feel different on the thread if the actor had been played by a younger kid?

reply

There was no condemnation of pooping behind a Christmas tree either , but we don't do it.

reply

The OP is just ridiculous. These are memoirs of this person's life. I guess you grew up in Disneyland where everything is 100% politically correct at all times.

Some people, believe it or not, do things against society's "norms" or rules when they're growing up and experiencing things for the first time.

reply

I agree with hubble and Err's an idiot!

reply

The actors portraying the characters were of age! I guarantee if these were 2 pretty LADIES there would be no discourse.

Gotta love double-standards...

reply

I'm with you...I wanted to fastforward, too. I read the book up to the part and at least appreciated they didn't show what really happened.

reply

Um, what did you see in this that in anyway made it ok? It was not intended as cute, it was not glamorized.... It was a story, from one persons POV.... and it was brutal....

"We're gonna need a bigger boat..."
