I don't understand how they could be in debt. The film is clearly obvious it was made on a LOW budget. It somehow managed to play in theatres and they made money through hits on their website.

I don't mean to be rude, I was definitely into the whole FEM project until I actually saw the film. Sorry to say, but for this supposed "HUGE" budget, this film looks like crap. $100,000 is supposably only a small chunk of your debt, yet its apparent camcorders were used to film half the footage.

I have a feeling these 2 are marketting geniuses and are living the high life off a project that cost no more than $1000.

reply

If you read the post on their website right after the DVD came out, they begged people to buy things because they were (at the time) in $80,000+ of debt.

Just because they used hand camera's does not mean that sound production, conversion to 35mm, paying actors, traveling for film shots, shooting permits, etc. are by any means within a $1,000 dollar budget.

I understand that you don't want to be rude, but I thought you should take more than the cameras into account of production costs. Also, 100,000 dollars is a shoestring budget compared to most indie films these days.

reply

it was made clear by the two that $100,000 was a SMALL chunk of the debt. So one would assume their total debt was over $500,000.

Does this project look anything close to half a MILLION dollars? I think not. The main characters were the 2 directors/writers. A lot of this movie is narration and therefore postdubbed in a studio. (Possibly done in house as the episodes of their video blogs show they have a studio). Many of the scenes are done in apartments and street shots, hardly a lot of permits would be required.

Indie films do not go anywhere NEAR $100,000. That is completely absurb, I'm currently studying film and with every grant possible you wouldnt even hit $100,000.

reply

Silax make a movie first... then we will see. Till then zip it. I would love to see what you can come up within restriction of 100,000$ budget. And they are asking for 1$ per person, which you don't even pay out of your own pocket. All you have to do is sign up at spout.com. You are an ass, i think you should know that.

reply

All you have to do is sign up? That's how marketing works my ignorant friend. All you have to do is sell your soul for money, its not hard.

If you're willing to invest $100,000 into a project of mine, I guarantee it will be superior in quality compared to this half assed project known as FEM.

Why should I zip if until I create a project of this magnitude? Should all criticism be restricted to those who are directly involved? That's completely absurb and such a childish argument. Why are you even on imdb, when according to you, you're opinion on a movie is worth less than dirt.

reply

I am on IMDB for a very different reason then you. You are here to trash movies i am here to get more informed.

And yeah all you have to do is sign up. Did you pay anything to watch the movie? are you paying 1$ out of your own pocket? you are way too cheap and arrogant. Its easy to trash others. Go make a movie first or shut the fucck up.

reply

dont you have to be 13 and over to sign up for these boards. I hope your parents dont know what kind of language you use on the internet.

Clearly you are too stupid to understand what criticism is, that or the FEM team is funding your ADHD medication.

Out of respect for the disabled, I will not respond to your insults. Take care, you are not different. You can lead a normal life if you believe in yourself.

reply

Hahah.. so i am 13? very typical way to insult someone when you have nothing to respond. You are a cheap arrogant moron thats what you are. Like i said. Try to do something original on your own. Lets see how many studios come running to fund your projects. Till then don't trash others who are actually trying to do something with their lives. Its negative people like you what is exactly wrong with todays world.

reply

No the typical way to insult someone would be resorting to profanity. You can say it again and again, but I'll repeat myself when I say there is room for critics in this world.

From your posts in the other forums you demonstrate your hypocrisy criticizing things that are not to your liking. Hypocrisy can also be seen in your "Arrogant Moron" comment.

Quite a sad world we live in indeed, if only abortions were not legal. Then you're mother wouldn't have attempted to abort you and defected your intellect at birth. Quite a shame.

reply

Seriously... get original. That insult wasnt even that good. Also thanks for looking into my post history. And how am i hypocrite if i don't like something that others try to force on me? atleast i don't trash those who are making genuine efforts.

On the other hand you are crying about one damn dollar which you are not even paying out of your own pocket. How cheap are you? go do something with your life and stop trashing those who are atleast trying. Bitchers and moaners like you go no where in life. Keep grumbling because thats all you can do.

I quickly became hooked on the podcast; Four Eyed Monsters appeared to be breaking the mold in terms of independent filmmaking and self-distribution. As a filmmaker myself I was excited by the idea of a significant change in the way films could be produced and financed. The video podcast was brilliantly put together, so when the movie came out on DVD I expected it to be of the same groundbreaking caliber.
I was disappointed.

In my eyes, the movie failed because the story simply wasn't strong enough. Technically and visually it was successful, but by the end of the film I was not emotionally connected to either Arin or Susan. It was too overblown and was teetering on the edge of low-budget ostentatious rot. The podcast had much more to say about love as the hurdles that Arin and Susan's relationship had to overcome were real, as were their reactions to them.

It is a great shame the story wasn't stronger, because it would have shown that the average struggling filmmaker could potentially create an original film on credit.

As for the debt - it was very real. A friend of mine knows Arin well, and he confirmed this for me.

They're not in debt. They're just making that sh*t up to make more money. Don't buy into it. This movie is STUPID.

reply

You know, I kind of doubt that. Any company that has $100k to throw at a project like this is probably savvy enough to make sure that the people to whom they are giving money are being honest about their needs.

Now: Does the $100k debt exist? Probably. Is it all from making the movie? Maybe. When you are making a movie and living in New York, I imagine the bills pile up pretty quickly.

And before you go throwing around accusations of dishonesty, how about coming up with a little proof?
