I thought that his speech at the end indicated that he left Texas for New York that night and found a new and better life, which included the man in bed with him.
If that was Mr. Cox, it was the worse ending this film could possibly have had. It reinforces the stereotype that gay men are pedophiles and completely undoes the important portrayal of Mr. Cox as a positive role model for queer youth. Heaven knows there aren't many of those characters in film.
Technically, he was eighteen, so there was no pedophilia.
shareYes, the man in the bed with Rodney Miller at the end of the movie was the same one who played Liza Minelli at the bar, Mr. Seymour Cox, the teacher. Out of everyone (Joey, closeted jock, some random guy from the bar) he could have ended up with, Mr. Cox was probably his best choice.
