“No Arnold, no Terminator movie”

Remember when everybody was ripping this film a new asshole because Arnold wasn’t officially in it? Now, 10 years later, the same fans are ripping Dark Fate a new asshole for actually having Arnold in it. He’s too old or something. I guess a 62 year old Terminator was believable but not a 72 year old Terminator? Funny how the times change.

reply

Arnold didn't even need to be in T2

reply

Imagine if they had Dolph Lundgren in T3.

reply

The only reason he was in T2 because he was such a massive star, Terminator launched his career into the stratosphere.

reply

It was Conan, not the first Terminator.

In retrospect, the last 2 Terminator movies were actually better off not going back to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Genisys and Dark Fate are complete utter failures. The story should have just continued with Christian Bale as John Connor in the fight against the machines in the future. Terminator Salvation was not even close to being on the same level as James Cameron's T1 or T2, but I'd say it's still the 3rd best in the series. I didn't really like the idea of a Terminator movie being made without James Cameron at the helm, but McG actually directed a solid sci-fi action movie. Terminator Salvation is a way better movie than Genisys and Dark Fate. That said, the series really didn't need to go any further than T2.

Where are you seeing that? I know a lot of people don't like what they did with his character (making him a drape-hanging family man), but he was still the only part of T:DF that was worth a shit. The biggest complaints I've seen are: unceremoniously killing off John Connor and it being a "woke fest."

reply

Pretty much any negative review on this site or IMDb, or YouTube, talks about Arnold being “too old”. The wokefest stuff was definitely the biggest complaint, but also tagged in that were the complaints of Linda and Arnold being too elderly for the film.

reply

The only reason Arnold was in T2 because he was such a massive star and people wanted to see and fund Terminator movies with him in them, he's the face of the franchise we can't change who it is.

reply

The sad thing is...if this movie had been made instead of T3 then people wouldn't have minded.

One of the worst things to come out of Genisys and Dark Fate is just how done Arnie is as the Terminator, him being the good guy Terminator has been done to death and is too old.

If you think about it how many Arnie T-800s have to shoot up shit in public until people start pointing fingers, in T2 the police where already on to him "they guy who shot up the police station was in the mail" and the future resistance would think the same thing. In the original they had another Terminator that wasn't played by Arnie what was wrong with that? Sarah Connor Chronicles had to do it because they couldn't afford Arnie it was a TV show.

reply

To be fair to Arnie (who is the least of the problem with the franchise, btw) but wasn't his character meant to be covered in human tissue (that's meant to age?)

The biggest problem with the franchise, is that it kept trying to replicate the (undeserved) success of the second movie (which I though was shite)

They could have just easily had another cyborg sent back after the first (superior) movie, and had him hunt down variations on future rebel-leaders (and kept him the bad guy) and kept the horror/sci-fi element of the original.

But (sadly) they didn't (as Schwarzeneggers popularity dictated that he always be the good guy, since the late 80's)

Fucking pansy faggots ruined the franchise back in 91.....and have done little else but squander close to a billion dollars (in largely unanswered 'revenue') proving such, since.
