Does Marcus really die?

Just out of curiosity I mean.

I believe in the Terminator comics in order to actually terminate a hybrid (which is what Marcus Wright is) you have to destroy their brain. If their heart stops, they merely go into a shutdown/hibernate mode, but can be reactivated later...provided their brain is intact. I'm not sure if it ever shows a T-H heart being removed but it would stand to reason that if their heart stops, it's essentially the same thing if you remove the heart completely.

While I know there will probably never be a sequel to this, shouldn't it be possible to revive/reactivate Marcus with another heart (or an artificial one)? I'm imagining eventually the brain will decay and be destroyed that way but it seems like T-Hs can go a while before that happens(?).

We don't really see what they do with him right? Did they just leave him there in the desert? Perhaps Skynet will somehow retrieve and revive him, try to put him back into service? Or, if they took the body, the Resistance may try to revive him later. The movie seems to just leave us to believe he's dead but it seems they really should be able to revive him. I wonder if they had considered that for a possible sequel (at the time)?

TBH, I do not know the comics. From a "logical" biologic standpoint, a human brain depends on the heart, so if there is no heart, brain will have damage beyond repair. Unless, maybe, some life support is used. But the same could have be done with John Connor.

I see the death of Marcus more like an "ethical plot hole". Connor itself opposed human sacrifices to win the war, but he allowed Marcus to be euthanized to save his own life.

Well yeah I get that much :P But I mean in the Terminator-verse T-Hs are not killable until their brain has been destroyed.

I looked into it further though and it seems that if there were direct sequels to TS he was to have been resurrected. This might be linked to why the scene where KR "buries" Marcus afterwards was cut from the film. Of course he essentially "buries" him overground*, lol, so I guess they could easily retrieve him if need be.

*Seriously it looks like when you "bury" someone at the beach by covering them with sand! 

you would think that Marcus would be the perfect T-850 sent back to save SC, and prepare for the arrival of KR

Really Marcus died at the START of the movie, when he was state executed and his body donated to research. the thing that wakes up in John Connor's war isn't human, let alone Marcus. It thinks its Marcus, but he could never have lived that long.

The Blade Runner argument, what it means to be human? Is it the memories of Marcus?

Marcus may have been "legally" dead, but his "soul" lives on, otherwise he would not have remorse or salvation.

So Marcus is pretty much our Officer Murphy of this film.

"Thanks, guys." "So long, partner."

Marcus's character is not really consistent. He survives stepping on a land mine and being fire bombed, but passes out from being punched in a heart? really? it does not make any sense. so yes, he is probably alive and well. it does not look like he need hear to live
