I just saw it at my local film festival and just wrote a review of it.

I'll be checking back here from time to time to see if anyone wants to discuss the movie.

i thought it was hilarious, to see these people say so many good things about such an awful place to live. The woman in the golf cart was one of my favorites.

It's on the Sundance channel.

I agree.

"Terminally optomistic" was what one person described them.

Loved loved loved this movie. The cafe owner, the landman and Leonard were my favorites. There's gotta be a way to save it.

This is a great docu. Loved the real folks talking and the scary urban types that live there now "outrageous". GREAT FILM!

I agree with you. The original locals were just, essentially, stuck there after having been scammed by the Realtors with their usual "flipping" and "investment potential" hype.

The urban transplants.... bringing in their worthless street lingo and single parent kids... seems to be the writing on the wall. I can envision an area that is nothing more than a desert ghetto of severe poverty that grows and grows upon itself through teenage motherhood and zero jobs.

There are areas in the middle east like that today..... desert poverty. Severe desert poverty. The only thing they have to do for entertainment is baby making.

Why would you WANT to save the "lake?"

It wasn't there to begin with. It was an engineering accident.

The area was / is desert.

What would be your rational? And, would YOU donate cash to help your idea?

As they stated in the movie, man has destroyed 90% of the natural wetlands between SD and LA in CA, which is a main flyway stopover for millions of birds. WE created the wetlands around Salton which replaced them. So the loss of Salton would add to the ecological disaster. And as also stated in the film, you would think the extremely rich folk of nearby Palm Springs would have a major interest in this as turning Salton into a dried up alkali flat would make their town pretty crappy when the winds get to blowing. (Read up about what happened in Owens Lake.) There was also a great documentary called "Saving the Bay" about what a determined group of women could do that saved much of Golden Gate Bay around SF. Seems like we screwed it up so we should fix the problem.

Man I agree with everyone! This movie is a trip! Love the golf cart woman and the real estate agent trying to make it sound like heaven!I also like the guy talking about how you can't get booze after 6!
In some strange, perverse way, I'd like to go see this place first hand.
I imagine it would be a vacation to remember.
