Stay Away! - Push (2006) Discussion

You seriously have to be kidding. First off, where did you see this film? Are you wrapped up in watching such winners as "Dukes of Hazzard?" Are you Uwe Bowl? This film sets a standard of independent film making, and maybe because it is not the normal predictable hollywood movie, you don't understand it. Keep an open mind and you might actually enjoy it.

I'm very open minded. I don't know why you asked where I saw it. Its still crappy. This movie is filled with bad acting. I wanted it to be good but I can't make it good. Its crap..plain and simple. Don't waste your time like I did and don't listen to this guy who probably worked on the movie or has some ties to it somehow. He's biased. I'm not =-)

I asked why you saw it because I'm curious if you saw it at festivals - which I did. To say this movie is filled with bad acting is ridiculous. Right off the top of my head, you have a phenomenal actor in Chazz Palmenteri, Michael Rappaport is great in everything he does, and Paul Ben-Victor, versatile enough to play the role he does in this film as compared to the roles he usually does that your statement is simply off base. While not as well known perhaps, the leads in this film are what make it believeable to go along with the story. It's a different kind of film - not a happy ending, which may not be for all, but its a solid film. I defend it because its independent film making, something different than the norm that I can appreciate.

I got it from a friend of mine. Not sure where he got it. Chazz Palmenteri is great but he was just alright this film. The best performance was by Michael Rappaport and he wasn't in much of the film. Paul Ben-Victor and Otto Sanchez were okay. These four men all had small screen time. The movies was focused on the three buddies and they all couldn't act. I was bored so I watched this and I was bored while watching it. I love independent films but this wasn't that "different than the norm" just because it didn't have happy ending. You say you didn't work on the film but if you did, it might have been better.

I disagree & suggest to run & buy it next week.Chad Lindberg is a great actor,Chazz Palminteri I can never miss,the rest of the cast is good as well,the director is amazing!I will be one of the first to buy it & I have been getting the word out to people I know to do the same.It's a waste of time to write bad about it because it's good no matter the negative said.

Wow, I dont know how you can say this movie sets a standard of any kind. The director or some of his lackies have been writing bogus positive reviews on this IMDB page. Every drug cliche imaginable, terrible acting, and amateur directing are the highlights of this film. I think the director would have been better off watching more Coppola, Leone, and Kurosawa; and less made for TBS movies.

I couldn't agree more. Why waste time coming to the message board to write negative stuff. PUSH may not be the best indie ever but it sure has style, the performances are stellar and it's totally an original take on a story that's been told before. Anyone that says the acting is bad in this film truly does not know the difference between good acting and bad. Plain and simple, PUSH is a solid independent without question.

Oh man,

you guys are totally unbelievable, for you to cheer and crow about this
film being an indie great, you must all be new to cinema and from
Nebraska. I'm sorry but if you think this is some milestone in independent
film you are just not very familiar with good film making.
The dialog is stilted and outdated, there is no flow between the actors and
Rodriguez has no clue in this industry. This looks like a student film, from
high schoolers.

I just saw PUSH and you've got to be kidding. This may not be one of the best independents EVER but the actors were absolutely flowing and vibing. And as far as the dialogue being "stilted and outdated" PLEASE! That's just a plain ridiculous comment. Now as far as you saying the director having no clue in this industry, lets address that. He got the money to make the movie, how, who cares, he got it! It got a distributed. It won a couple of awards. It was released theatrically in LA and on DVD which is obvious because you're on here talking about it. STOP! You're killing me and quite frankly, you sound like a frustrated wanna be filmmaker. Plain and simple, your comments have no basis. This was a great little independent film! PERIOD.

he got the money and had it released in very limited markets.
Whew, if I had known that I would have looked at him like he
was Spielberg.
You aren't silly enough to tell me that raising money, for
example, is evidence of someone's directing skills?
Now you are making me laugh as hard as the poor dialog.
Have you ever seen any of the "Pumpkin Patch" movies?
Apparently it takes very little to scare up loads of cash to
film whatever schlock you wish. Master P, there's another example,
Ed Wood?
"Flowing and vibing"... Oh my, what street cred you have!
You might even be one of the white suburban kids who actually wrote
the wannabe ebonics for this thing.
Do you also find yourself saying "Word Up", "Cool Beans" and that
most MC Hammer of taglines, "Prah-puh"?
My comments have plenty of basis for someone with the intellect of a
twelve year old or higher so in your case, you might have a point
(at the top of your head).

OK, since taste in movies is purely subjective, I don't want to spend alot of time going tit-for-tat with you defending why I believe this is a solid independent film. Unlike many people on this message board who may know the cast or filmmakers and support the film, this sounds like a very personal attack by you. When someone doesn't like a movie they simply state "I don't like it" or "It sucked". You on the other hand are incapable of just saying that and instead, come on here and bash the actors and filmmakers. As far as the director having skills. I was addressing in my last comment that he got the money and got it distributed because YOU said that he had no clue in this business in your previous posting. I happen to think that Rodriguez's directing skills are solid. You shouldn't get the BUSINESS confused with the CREATIVE skills of a director. If that was the case, you owe it to yourself to bash half of the movies and TV shows listed on this site that clearly suck. Best of luck with whatever you are trying to do in film business.

Your name suggests that you are technical and big...you obviously have a big head...and I suspect that you sit at home with your 24p camera and your imovie editing software and make horrible little films that even your family members don't want to see. Also, your attitude leads one to believe that you think you know all there is to know about films. I bet you do...I've bet you've seen every film ever made and sit at home congratulating yourself because you are a misunderstood genius who will one day be the next "whoever". This response has nothing to do with your feelings for "Push". You don't even deserve a response but your constant rantings on this message board forced one out on me. I really don't care what you think about the movie and I really have anything to do with it. I am just tired of people like you destroying decent messages boards across IMDB. You and people like you are complete idiots. So, I challenge you to find me one these message boards and bring your knowledge. Bigtechs1 are you kidding me?This GREAT movie does not look like a student film!!!!!Considering you keep coming to this board maybe your a fan in hiding or just jealous you did'nt make the film.The director did an amazing job & is the next big thing so whether you like the movie or not thats your opinion but that's all it is & if you don't like or support the movie then who on this board really care's about your opinion?The director & the actors in PUSH are AMAZING,the movie is good period!

Well, I just got the film and am about to watch it here shortly.....No matter what the film turns out to be like...I still think it will be better than all that Hollywood insecure pretty,pretty,palates.....Crapp..that's being put out today...personaly i would rather watch a *beep* B film than a big budget all star cast from hollywood...cause at least when the B-film directors do it they do it for the love of film not money!!!money is just a bonus when it comes to most in the indie film industry...I can say that there are some good films out there with big budgets but not many!!!that's for sure..!!!!and as for the guy attacking the director and stuff get a life...!!!!!I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion about everything and thats a beautiful right but, i get more ticked off at the big screen guys when they put out a *beep* movie because there is no excuse if you have alot of money to work with YOU BETTER put out a good flick...!!!! or you better find some one that can fake it really good.....as for all you guys out there sticking up for these B-films and what you believe in i have something to say...."DOWN WITH MAINSTEAM CINEMA!!!" "LONG LIVE UNDERGROUND FILM...!" "DeMENTED FOREVER DeMENTED FOR LIFE!!!" those of you that know stay true those that don't watch Cecil b. Demented by John Waters though there were some big names in the film it stayed true to underground film......funny but rare...

I find it funny that the lingo and terminology used in Push is frighteningly similar to many conversations I've had with certain friends. From personal experience the film seems somewhat realistic, but my life is somewhat unique, so it would be understandable many people find it ridiculous and implausible. Sometimes reality can look cheesy and contrived on screen but it's none the less real. But don't get me wrong a lot about this movie is un-realistic, mostly regarding Paul Diaz the "Drug Dealer" and his right hand man "tough guy" Manny.

No connection to the film at all and I highly enjoyed it. To say it was bad is just crazy in my opinion. It had a story I was interested in, good cinematography in the club scenes, high production values, acting was good with the interaction between the friends, it all just worked well together. I hope this guy keeps making more movies.

You said what you had to say last year. Move on to another film or, is it you that's a disgruntled employee of this film?

I am not in film, not angry, or jealous. Nobody enjoyed this movie. People who worked on the film are on here overhyping this crap so they can work again. Everytime real viewers comment on how its crap somebody else comes and overhypes this movie all over again. Its crap and I'm happy.

Sorry to break your heart lawrence913 but I did not work on the film nor did anyone else that has watched it with me & told me they enjoyed it,I happen to be a huge fan of the movie,the cast & the director so I will continue to speak up for it,if you don't like it then thats you....just read what edgutentag last wrote because they makes a very good point!And no one needs to "overhype" this movie because the cast & director continue to work & will be big names in the future so get use to their work or don't watch...plain & simple!

Why would my heart be broken because I saw a bad film? xoSJxo, you said you were a huge fan before seeing the film and one afterwards on another post. How is this possible to be a fan of something you haven't seen? Now go ahead and delete your post or make up a reason why you loved a movie before you saw it. It wasn't a book turned movie so I don't get that part. Everyone has a opinion and I am pretty sure most will agree with mine. Even if they don't I warned them. You give this film the best praises but we can easily find better B,C,D-movies better than this. Is this the first movie you've seen or what? This movie has bargain bin written all over it. I'm tired of fighting with people affilated with this movie. Make a better movie next time.

stay away indeed. I wish I would've read some of these before watching for myself and being bored silly. This movie was so bad, script, acting, directing, everything.

I for one, am glad that people who don't like the movie post their review for others. It gives a good balance for folks like me to decide if I want to spend my time on a movie or not.

I disagree with you, I thought it was a great movie, the actors were really talented, and I thought Rodriguez did a great job. The script was great, even with the constant line being *beep* all through out the movie. The acting and the directing was perfect, the actors actually got you into the movie and they actually showed you how they feel... I thought Chad Lindberg did a great job. I liked the way the camera was, it gets you into the atmosphere of the movie.

I agree with the original post that this movie is total garbage. The camera uses the shaky technique which is done horribly. The acting isn't too bad, but the characters are such losers it makes me want to murder all of them. The BIG GANGSTERS have respect from those three bums but those BIG GANGSTERS aren't even cool characters. They look like punks to me. The dialogue in the movie is pure crap as well. Why can't they make good gangster films anymore... damn look at Pulp Fiction, now thats a real movie. The dialgoue, the characters, the soundtrack, and the plot are just so amazing you can't help but to love it all. While in PUSH, i wanted to kill the characters myself. Why did they make such a big deal with finding 500 E pills first of all? Second, why were they discussing business in front of women? like DAAAAMN! BE SMART ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS!! thats all i got to say.
