He doesn't eat. He's been undead since he died at the end of the first film.

He occasionally sucks some of Manny's blood while he sleeps, however (he'd drink Sid's too, but Sid doesn't really taste very nice)

LOL that was hilarious, mrmoo, Diego is like a zombie sabertooth cat!  He probably got blood poisoned from sucking on Sid's blood, lol!

hah, I actually was thinking about that too when I watched it today...I just thought...hmm...if he's supposedly friendly to everyone...what's he been eating?

I love the lines:
Diego: And then the hungry tiger ate all the pesky kids!

and

Manny: Okay, thanks to Sid...we're gonna be going together. So that means we're gonna be one big happy family. So I'll be the Daddy, Ellie will be the mommy...and Diego will be the uncle who eats the kids that get on my nerves!

Just the way they were delivered were great...and it's what made me wonder...

"Yes...No...To get to the other side...1.772..."

They wound up deleting this final scene, but right after they walk off into the sunset Diego is so starving that he finally kills and eats Sid and the possums.

I'm thinking Diego goes off on his own sometimes to do solo hunts. Sid and Manny are aware of this but they don't talk about it. Really what do they expect him to do? Starve? Diego would surely die from eating just plants.

This combined with the 'one big happy family' scene at the start set the movie off on the wrong foot IMO. Things didn't improve when we got Ellie, a tree-climbing mammoth who thinks she's an opossum.
