The Gene Generation as a film...

Ok, let's try this message board and start anew. Seems like Pearry Teo has a lot of haters, but it also seems greared towards anything you can find. Looking at his message boards on myspace, he's humble and has never done anything to anyone. I read some of the stuff here and did some further check ups. All claims are false. Please, look into facts before such claims are being made. I'm not going to say which one but facts are easily checked out. I have not made a film, but (ok, I admit it) looking at documentaries and making-ofs, they are not easy. Pearry has all my respect on this and the fact he is willing to do it while staying humble is far better in my books than some ego-money-driven studio. Let him do his art. If you don't like it, there are MANY films out there that you might take a fancy to. Send good vibes there, not bad ones here.

I'm sending good joo-joo to Pearry. And to The Gene Generation as a film. As far as I know. Send out good joo-joo and you get good ones back to. That's the law of karma. If I don't like him as a person (which I have not found reasons to), he'll have my respect as a filmmaker and a person who dedicates his life to entertaining all of us.

The world is filled with such negative energy already. Why not start sending out good ones. Metaphorically speaking, instead of being anti-abortion, be pro-life. Look at his message boards on Gene Generation myspace. You'll find somebody who has a wicked sense of humor and is nice to everybody and takes the time to get to know everybody....if you want to get to know him. He puts on no airs as a celebrity.

Path,

'Seems like Pearry Teo has a lot of haters'

I've found the same thing in the Hollywood 'above-ground', Pop-culture fake scene.

I have to wonder why do these people have to hate on Pearry?

Obviously they've never met him. There is NO more humble, sweet and wonderful person in the world than the genius that is Pearry Teo!

It's highly unlikely they were at the Underground Industry screening... most likely they've NEVER seen anything Peary's done.

The movie is BRILLIANT, although Keith forced Pearry to cut the theactrical release about 10-20 minutes shorter that optimum.

The Director's cut will be what SHOULD be shown in theaters.

Looking forward to my 2nd time in a theater since I was five. The first was of course the HUGE industry screening at AFI for the first public showing of Gene.

Thanks for your astute post and BIG hugs,
Celeste

The only thing I have against this director is the *beep* things he said about Faye Dunaway. He said she was a bitch, crazy and the possibly the worst actor he had ever worked with. Considering he's made two films still unreleased, just what kind of barometer is he judging her by? I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this film for two years, maybe the cruel things he said about Faye is the bad karma that keeps this film from getting seen by the public.

AJA Io HD Enables 4K Digital Screening for ‘The Gene Generation’
Raz Public Relations March 25th, 2008

Keith ColleaIndependent Sci-Fi Feature Uses HD Video I/O Device to Facilitate Screening Room Projection

AJA Video, a leading manufacturer of professional video interface and conversion solutions, today announced that its award-winning Io HD was used to facilitate both test and cast and crew screenings of the sci-fi indie feature, “The Gene Generation.” Io HD, the first device to natively support Apple’s newly introduced ProRes 422 post production format in hardware, delivers HD editing to the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro via its unique Firewire 800 (IEEE-1394b) interface. Starring Ling Bai and Perry Shen with a supporting role by Faye Dunaway, “The Gene Generation” will premiere in spring 2008.

The effects-heavy feature, based on the “DNA Hacker Chronicles” graphic novel series, presents a futuristic world populated with deadly DNA Hackers and the Assassins who hunt them. Keith Collea, co-writer and producer for “The Gene Generation,” also served as Technical Supervisor for the project. He used AJA’s Io HD as an integral part of a fully portable movie projection system that allowed the film to be projected on a Sony 4K digital cinema projector at the American Film Institute’s Mark Goodson Theater without the use of tape-based VTR for playback.

“Our goal was to create an ‘over-the-shoulder’ projection system, one that fit entirely into a shoulder bag I could carry on my motorcycle and that would allow us to just walk in, plug in a cable, and walk out again—no tapes to back up, no heavy equipment to schlep, no truck to rent,” relates Collea. “Using the Io HD, an Apple Intel MacBook Pro and a G-Tech G-DRIVE, we were able to do just that and nobody could see the difference. It saved us time and money, and the picture quality was better than if it came off of tape. It was just incredible.”

A visual effects and post production veteran, Collea’s resume includes work on many effects-laden features, including “Alien: Resurrection,” “Independence Day” and “Pearl Harbor.” As a longtime AJA user, Collea’s entire post production workflow depends on AJA products, including the KONA line of QuickTime capture/output cards, breakout boxes and converters.

“I’m a huge AJA fan,” says Collea. “Their products are rock-solid dependable and the customer service is beyond stellar — there’s never been a time when I couldn’t get someone on the phone to help with any issue I might have, even with non-AJA related problems. It’s also great that AJA is so closely associated with Apple. The moment Apple comes out with new software updates, AJA is ready with new drivers. Everything is in sync, which makes my life so much easier.”

Io HD is the next-generation of the popular Io video ingest and output devices introduced by AJA four years ago. Io HD brings HD editing to the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro utilizing Apple’s ProRes 422 technology, while also supporting SD editing workflows. Io HD includes many high-end features such as Up-, Down-, and Cross-conversion, all at 10-bit hardware-based quality. Io HD offers unmatched connectivity via its myriad of professional analog and digital interfaces. Io HD is a portable device that works with Apple’s new Final Cut Pro 6 for professional editing, and also with other QuickTime applications on Mac OS X for graphics, audio and digital content creation.

Io HD leverages Apple’s new ProRes 422 format and is the first device to do so natively in hardware, freeing up system processors for other production tasks, and allowing true 10-bit editing on a MacBook Pro. Io HD supports both Apple ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ, in 720 and 1080 HD, all in real time, full-resolution 10-bit 4:2:2. ProRes 422 capture (compression) and playback (decompression) are all handled directly in the Io HD.
