Roasts Make Me Sad Now

Roasts used to be fun. But the more they do, the more they tend to suck. It's usually a couple of Comedy Central normals like Greg Giraldo and Colin Quinn followed by some random people that are loosley related to the guest of honor who are there only to put themselves over (see George W Bush impersonator in this one and Triumph The Insult Comic Dog at Rob Reiner's for no real good reason). The jokes, especially in this one, are basically one theme recycled over into 2 hours of jokes (Jeff's a redneck, he has/had a crappy TV show...that's it). Plus a bunch of people who I know have nothing better to do phoning it in like they're accepting a Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Award.

And worst of all are the random songs sloppily thrown in. Though this time it did give us the funniest moment of the night: watching Jeff awkwardly pretend to enjoy the crap rap version of "Sweet Home Alabama". That was hilarious.

To wrap up, I don't know why I keep watching these roasts. They get exponentially worse every time. Maybe I'm hoping one will finally come around and as funny as they should be.

the new york friar's club roasts are the ones that are funny and brutal, but i've noticed comedy central doesnt show those anymore. they show their own comedy central roast and have a bunch of comedy central comedians (who arent THAT funny).
