KITT scene, is that really William Daniels?

Geeze, did he have a cold or something the day of the shoot?
And those lines, bit too simplistic-sounding for the overly
eloquent talking Trans Am I remember. "Hello, I'm KITT."
No, really? I thought you were the General Lee.

Shouldn't it have been more like...

"Greetings, I am the voice of the Knight Industries Two Thousand's
microprocessor, K.I.T.T. for easy reference. Might I suggest you
permit me to activate the Auto Pilot?"

Did you notice that Mel's son turned skinny and disappeared in this scene? It was just strange to me.
