BIG SPOILERS! When did you first realize...?

When did you first realize that Taylor was Leslie's chosen "survivor girl"? For me it was during the scene at Eugene's house when Eugene commented on liking Taylor because "she's a spitfire". I'm sure others caught on sooner but i wanted to see just how early everyone else caught on.

like, when they were scaring kelly near the dumpsters at her work place.

i tried to think of what the ending would be and these were the possibilities:

either
1) taylor becomes the victim or
2) taylor becomes the next psycho.. or whatever

--;; how else would the ending work while being twisty..

reply

I didn't realize it. It was a huge twist to me, and I loved it. Plus, Taylor was my fav character in the movie, so that was just another plus.

It was a great, unpredictable ending.

One of the first hints that Kelly is a red herring Survivor Girl is right after Taylor pulls the brick out from the door behind the diner. As Leslie and the crew are getting back into the van, one of the camera men says "Who's that guy?" in reference to a young man seen entering the diner after hours. He's probably Kelly's boyfriend--the guy she's caught having sex with later in the movie. Leslie says "Nobody" and the scene cuts.

Really? I thought it was the Doctor keeping tabs on them...

From the beer scene, I got the vibe that Taylor was a goodie goodie.

The more that the crew would be running, and the more that Taylor would get uneasy with the thought of Leslie actually killing people, I guessed that Taylor would eventually put herself in a position to help the others.

I definitely knew it was the case when they were discussing how the survivor girls pick weapons that are phallic in nature and Taylor seemed really embarassed by Leslie's bluntness.

I actually guessed early on when he took them to the high school to show them how he picks a suitable group. Taylor asks him if that one girl is his victim and he says "no i picked one girl back in (name of town)". He implies he's talking about Kelly, but in my head i thought i bet he's actually talking about her. Plus it's obvious that she was going to be involved at the end somehow. I figured either she would be the heroine, she would help the heroine at the end, or she would fall in love with the killer and actually kill the girl at the end.

reply

Well Taylor was starting to fall in love with him. That was evidenced when she tried to talk him into not going through with it.

I do think it was obvious that Taylor was going to end up doing one of the fallowing:

-End up killing Kelly/The Ahab to save Leslie
-Be the 'Survivor girl'

I expected it fairly early on, the entire movie she isn't seen being close with any guy and dressing like a 13 year old. Over sized pull-overs give a pretty 'innocent little girl' look for a horror movie doesn't it?

The way Leslie responded when she asked him if he was in love with Kelly.
He gave her this kind of...torn look in the mirror. That certainly wasn't a question he was expecting from her.

An obvious amount of romance was floating around, and he just seemed to be treating Taylor with an odd amount of care and caution. AS if he wanted to keep her close enough to have a good watch on her and far enough so as she wouldn't catch on and he wouldn't get to 'close' to her. Like when you name a cow that's going to be a slaughter animal, then your attached to it and you can't give it off to the slaughter house.

Perhaps the scene where Leslie was putting on the makeup for under his mask, was when it was really sealing the deal for me.It was an oddly..endearing sort of scene where Taylor was watching his transformation, and perhaps one of the only times when Leslie and Taylor where actually alone.

I just got the idea he was treating Taylor with an odd amount of care.

Is anyone else reminded of the Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling relashionship but me?Oh well.

I also thought it was Doc Halloran.

i think it must been when they were at the old farm house and they were talking and leslie like spoke and sad - because you have that look that says we cannot stand here and let this happen then it struck me :)

reply

The first time she did the puffy fish face crap, a few minutes into the damn movie.

reply

I'm not gonna front...I didn't realize it til it was REVEALED!

What I DID see coming was the big letdown for Kelly and her being a "virgin"...she would dress waaaay to sexy & provacative to come off as the "virginal" type...I knew she was ph.ucing that one dude when she was upstairs...she was jumping up & down on that thing like a pogo stick! Sweeeet!

I didn't realize it ahead of time, either.

As for the "fly-by" scene at the diner, I assumed the guy who drove up right at the end was Doc Halloran (like at the library).

reply

Yeah, I thought it was Dr. Halloran after he was introduced, but in retrospect, the way Leslie quickly dismisses him, it's more likely he was the boyfriend that Leslie knew about.

I'll be honest, I didn't see it coming, and it's really because I thought it was kinda cliche. Even after the other girl was shown to not be a virgin, I assumed the movie (which had been awesome until then) was smart enough to not resort to such a thing. I was wrong, but it was still a good movie, just not as good as it could've been. I also hadn't heard there was a 'twist' ending, so I honestly wasn't going to be surprised if the documentary crew went along with it, if they fought him, if it just happened and the climax of the movie occurred later- I was open for anything, I had never seen a movie like it before.

That she was the survivor girl and it ended the way it did was, as I said, kind of a cliche and a letdown.

reply

I remember thinking the second I saw Kelly 'Yeah, in a normal horror she's too slutty looking to be the survivor girl' but it didn't click that this wasn't just bad casting. I always had a feeling the crew couldn't let this happen and they'd get involved but it wasn't until they actually decided to go back and help them that it clicked she was the girl.

reply

I think I caught on a bit later to be honest, when they first found out the original survivor girl wasn't a virgin I think

reply

When they met Ahab in the library.

reply

I didn't see it coming until it was revealed to us. I figured there wasn't gonna be a twist...I don't know what I was thinking. I love this movie. Vastly underrated.

I figured it out when they entered the house to warn the kids, all the hints were there tho, I just got too involved to notice the misdirection. For the person who said the ending was cliche, the predictability and cliches were apart of his process. If it were any other movie it would have bothered me, but since it all went according to his plan, I found it to be more than acceptable.

reply

See I didn't actually think of Taylor being the Survivor girl. But I did think during the movie that she would eventually try and stop Leslie from killing.

reply

When they were doing the sit down interview and he said "Rule number 1, nobody gets away..." I knew she was the original target and that the other girl and the whole interview thing was just a ploy to get closer to her and in her head

as soon as the film started and she knocked on the door to meet him, this film was good, but way too predictable

If you thought this movie was predictable you missed the entire point.

reply

oh because it was meant to be predictable? as i said the film was enjoyable but it was too easy to work out, the film had no point, i have met the makers of this film before and even they said it was just a parody of every cliche they could think off and have enjoyed the fan reaction, i look forward to the planned prequel

Tell me how 'meant to be predictable' and 'every cliche they could think of' aren't almost the same thing, thanks.
