runined the show

this show was a classic, and this movie made it seem like a failure. what did u think of the show itself?

The show was a huge hit in its first season only. It crashed in the second season and never recovered. It went from being the #3 show on TV in the first season to number #30 the next and it kept falling.

The revolution will now be televised. Sundays @ 11 on Adult Swim

I doubt this movie ruined the show. I think that Mearth did a far better bang up job of that. Williams was such a strong talent that he was able to go on afterwards. Jay Thomas had recurring roles on Cheers and Murphy Brown, but yes other than these two, that was kinda it.

Williams to me, was manic and tedious, even before this show. I never thought he was funny and I don't think I ever watched a full episode of this show, but I did see snippets of it in passing. Never felt like I missed anything,

In Season Two somebody got the wild notion that the program needed a few changes. They dropped some cast members and gave the show a new disco-garbage theme song. Characters like Fred, Cora, Susan and Eugene were written out; Remo and Jeanie were added and Mr. Bickley went from being an occasional character to a regular part of the show.

The focus became less on Mork trying to adjust to life on Earth, which was what made the show so funny, thanks to Robin Williams. The entire premise of the show was pretty ridiculous if you think about it; it was only Williams' comic talents that made it work. Without him it would have flopped big time and probably would have been canceled after six episodes.

This is another example of the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation. They had the perfect combination in Season One and should have left it alone.

Wow, if it was #30 in the second season one wonders how the show lasted four complete seasons.

it was the whole 70's get high on....mentality. Williams and his brand of humor fit right in.

Also we forget with only 3 broadcast networks back then (unlike today) the studios could take many more risks with programing which they no longer can do.

reply

They must have been making so much money on Mork merch they let it run 2 seasons too long.

that explains it

I know as a 13 year old I never missed an episode that first season. I never really watched it again the thing about TV back then(it might be the same way today, I don't watch TV much anymore) us kids and older people could tell immediately if their favorite show was starting to go off the rails. So, in Mork and Mindy's case a kid like me could watch the season 2 premiere and within 5 minutes recognize the shocking drop in quality and then never watch the show again.

As a matter of fact, this is probably exactly what happened back in 1979!
