I may be the only one..,

but I just finished watching this movie for like the 10th time. And for some reason, I just could not stop myself from crying. This movie was so emotional. The part that got me is when Akeelah's last word was "Pulchritude"
and she says something like "it's from the Latin word 'pulcher' meaning 'beautiful' I started tearing. And then when all of her "coaches" are spelling the word. OMG! I lost it! lol
Such a great movie. I loved cheering for Akeelah and watching as her community did the same thing. This movie is very empowering and as a future teacher, I will be showing this movie in my classroom.

Post script: Akeelah's brothers, Dr. Larabee and Derrick-T were hot!! lol

"Courage Under Fire was just A Soldier's Story after all it took Denzel 25 Films to get his Glory... don't clap, I can't claim Denzel cause y'all say, 'girl, he ain't light-skin-did he is caramel.. well what??!"

You're not the only one! I feel the same way about that scene, and I'm a man. I rarely cry at a movie, but this one gets me every single time. I just watched this tonight with my 7 year-old, and here are the parts that always get me:

(Warning: spoilers ahead!)
- Larabee pushes Akeelah away and tells her to learn the 5,000 words
- Akeelah starts feeling the pressure and wants to quit, crying because her friend doesn't want to hang and Larabee quit.
- Akeelah and Larabee talk about Denise, and she convinces Larabee to go to DC
- Of course, that magnificent ending, with all of the coaches sharing the spelling of the winning word (if there was anything less than perfect about this movie, it was that word being in the championship round... still gave the movie a 10 though)

That last one hits me because of the way her community stuck by her, and how her father was there to add a letter to the word.

This movie is as close to perfect as they come. From the acting (the kid playing Javier was as brilliant as Palmer, Bassett, and Fishburne) to the way the movie was shot to the way the final word was spelled. I can't describe the thrill I got when that last word was read and we knew she had it! Then to spell it the way they did.... just wow.

The community message and the Marianne Williamson quotes were also fantastic. If there is anything wrong with this movie, it's just a pebble tossed into an ocean of good film making.

I totally agree. This is a beautiful movie. The best part of it was when she tried to throw the match for Dylan. What a gorgeous soul this kid has.

very predictable, which kinda ruined it for me and leaves this as an average movie, i simply watched because it was on TV at 12am on a free day...

Aren't most movies "predictable"?
