Black Women/White Men (examples/stories needed)

Hi guys, I've been hanging out at this board since 2006. It's been a while since I've posted, but I do come here from time to time to read whatever gets posted.

Anyway, I'm constantly working on fan fiction for several fanbases I am a part of/interests I have, and of course I always seem to be the only person who write about characters who are either entirely black or half-black--which is fine, but I'm just mentioning what I notice.

Usually relationships that happen are between white men and these kinds of female characters I just mentioned, and I'm always looking for certain types of interactions between each character. Whether it be something romantic or something argumentative--perhaps a racial issue that could present itself directly or indirectly to their relationship.

A lot of my fan fiction is heavy on drama (and Agent type of stuff, like FBI, NCIS, CIA, etc.) and along with all of that there's the usual drama of relationships and what could occur.

I'm rambling at this point, I know this, lmao, anyway, if anyone had any suggestions or if anyone knows of their own personal stories, or just real life stories they've run across--hell, even movies/tv shows that come to mind, I'll take anything at this point because I'm just trying to keep development going on one of my new fics.

So thanks in advance everyone. :)

I used to be a big fan of "Tangeline", the botched pairing of the then-Todd Manning (Trevor St. John) and Evangeline Williamson (Renee Elise Goldsberry) from the defunct ABC soap One Life to Live. The clips are still up on Youtube, I'm sure. They were all shades of hot, funny, tender, adult, complex--you name it, they were it. I miss that. Not sure if I've seen chemistry like that between characters, whatever color, since then.

Geekery make sure to watch Scandal a tv show on ABC which features an interacial pairing between a political fixer (bw) and the president of the united states (wm) and their illicit affair.

If this last comment refers to Todd and Evangeline, then, yep, they were pretty cool. They never really got a chance to have that full-fledged relationship, though, which was a shame. The chemistry between them (and the two actors playing them) was ridiculous. I actually think it scared a lot of people, which is why they didn't happen the way other pairings naturally would have, given that level of connection. There was a heck of a lot of controversy surrounding this storyline at the time, too, most assuredly.

did fans of the soap voice themselves or was it the media--or both?

Well, from the way I remember it, much of the noise came from the fanbases that were active, mostly for the previous or longstanding pairings each of the characters had with others. Todd had been historically tied to Blair (played by Cassie dePaiva), while Evangeline had been with John McBain (Michael Easton) and, at the time of the burgeoning Todd/Evangeline connection, Eva had been involved with Crisitian Vega (played by David Fumero).

Each of these relationships had strong fans behind them, including the Todd/Evangeline pairing, and a lot of the squabbling (yes, over a soap couple, I know, and I admit I used to root for mine as much as anybody, lol, though I never got downright nasty about it like some folks) went on over the opinion that Todd should always be with Blair because that's the way it had always been, or that Evangeline and Cristian were THE couple to beat, not Todd and Eva or John and Eva (though they had their champs as well). It was crazy, though fun in it's way, even if people did go a bit overboard. There were racial politics involved, I think, as much as anything, since all of these men were either white or Latino, and the idea that an intelligent, talented, and beautiful black woman could have pull with all three of them may have been disturbing to some.

The notion that the black woman was usurping the white woman's pedestal in this way (as in the lead white actress/character may have been overshadowed by the presence that was Renee Goldsberry) was also a facet of the debates, not to mention the fact that some folks were spreading rumors about Renee Goldsberry and Trevor St. John (Todd, at the time) being more than just acting buddies because the chemistry was TOO much (and because they are both musically inclined and liked to perform together on-stage in real life...). Like I said, it was crazy!

Ultimately, what helped to end the potential couple's chances was the fact that REG's contract came up right at the time things were moving forward (after a lot of stalling), and the powers in charge didn't give her the deal she wanted, letting her go--even if she was one of the most popular characters the show had had up to that point. Something fishy in that indeed. Seemed to me to be the beginning of the end.

One of my favorite scenes, when Todd helps Vange get her sight back after an accident. Flower in the hair was a nice touch.
